it’s not a “product” it’s not “content” it’s not just the object it is the meaning and the intention—and if it’s just spat out by a prompt scraped from a melange of unsuspecting artists, then it doesn’t mean anything, other than the fact that you don’t respect, love, or appreciate art or artists

I don’t know how to get this across more than it’s already been stated: the point of making art is not that it’s easy the point is that we work, in every medium imaginable, to communicate things deeper than language alone can

most stuff is obvious in some way, but the fact that I now have a habit of doing a quick little search to make sure that someone actually made the art I’d like to enjoy is frustrating and exhausting

read an article a while back (need to remember in what publication!) about how current society is built around luxuries being very cheap (Uber, food delivery, etc) and crucial public services being made expensive (school, health care, etc) and this feels ….. related to that!
comment in response to post
I say this with the expectation that there probably *are* some situations and folks (esp based on geographic location) where where those services may be genuinely crucial but still, that seems like an outlier and not the case for the vast, vast majority of folks

the former, I suppose! I just don’t worship at the altar of anyone—I love lots and lots of people’s music, but if my opinion of any composer/songwriter/musician is “they wrote only hits, no misses,” then I don’t think I’m meaningfully observing them with any real impartiality

some parts! *some* parts!

oh, I don’t think he’s bad at orchestrating at all! some parts of the symphonies are just kind of boring to me lots of things by lots of people are immaculately orchestrated and also boring lol

I think this is absolutely the thing Brahms songs are very solid lots of his chamber work is also great (like: the horn trio! ooh baby!) his symphonic stuff isn’t *always* spot on—except when it is! (like, Deutches Requiem? hell yes) no one batted a thousand (even the folks who people think did)

I don’t know if I can legally rule on this, but I think that that’s okay I I think the racism is contained within the pottery barn aestheticization of them

Wes, I shit you not, I think about the tan suit a lot not because it remotely fucking mattered, but because we now face down a giant fucking catastrophe that would’ve sunk any—ANY—other previous administration, and now it’s just par-for-the-course

“but we HAVE economic hardship!” oh, my babies oh, my sweet children we have economic *inequality* yes, there are lots of folks at severe poverty levels in this nation, but our general economy is at least keeping a lot of people at a stasis (a bad stasis, but a stasis)

tbh most court composers were still mad mad poor all the time, but that’s because they had a lot of cocaine to buy, so
