The kicker... the tax savings for each person in the town were like 30$ a year.

Oregon AFSCME members demand action on workplace safety! Two-thirds of surveyed workers faced serious workplace safety concerns. We're backing bills for safer staffing levels & expanded PTSI coverage. Lawmakers must act now. #OrLeg #OregonAFSCME

Tempting…maybe in another couple years

Rather than a "botched" DEI purge, perhaps this illustrates the way that anti-DEI rhetoric is being used to justify efforts to harm vulnerable people more broadly. On a related note, it is a mistake to accept at face value the explanations of the fascist state.

You know what the mid-20th century descent into facism did not have? Climate change. Do you know what is great at creating a facism positive feedback loop? Climate-linked disasters. Don't mind me I'll be learning how to distill my own liquor for when I can't afford booze or sobriety.

This is probably the most accurate take.

If the U.S. really does crumble into authoritarian dictatorship, let the history books remember that it was neoliberal/free market capitalism and the conservative movement that caused it. It began with civil rights and the unleashing of money in politics.

I hear Urban Alchemy is the worst place to live, but the folks who work there deserve a Union.

the single most un-american and anti-constitutional statement ever uttered by an american president

"[For the Right], D.E.I...is the mere presence of a woman or nonwhite person or disabled or transgender person in any high-skilled, high-status position. And their alternative isn’t some heretofore unknown standard of merit; it is the reintroduction of something like segregation." (gift link)

A tarp in the rain? Gloves in the snow? A bandaid, a safety pin, antibiotic ointment? Just what action will result in 6 months in jail or $1000 fine in Fremont, California, where aiding someone who is homelessness is now a crime. @calmatters.org

“The word of the day is ‘graft’!”

My girlfriend from HS just messaged me that her sibling is literally homeless and she isn’t looking for advice “just processing”. After a really long time doing this work I’m still not sure how to respond to this beyond “Wow, that sucks” which feels really insufficient

Make fraud great again.

Was at the airport this morning dropping off a friend and the mood felt different… No one deserves to maybe die just because they went to work but I hope @flyingwithsara.bsky.social and the rest of the flight attendants and pilots take the airline industry to the fucking cleaners right now. #FAA

Oops 😬

Hell yeah. Hold the line. This is what we need people to do. Slow things down, don’t comply in advance so the courts have time to stop them. It’s starting to work.

Mailman: Here’s your mail Me: Heard y’all did a thing Mailman: Oh? Me: Heard you threw out the contract Mailman: Hell yeah! That thing was absolute trash He was absolutely beaming that I knew about the “No” vote campaign

The OSHA bill explained: Millionaires in Congress are deciding whether it’s better for Billionaires to loose a few dollars at work or Thousandaires to loose a few fingers

Reading the news muttering “I hate this fucking country” every day till I die

Yesterday I posted a thread about some of my early musing on HOW we might start thinking about striking at a Unionized homeless shelter. This is the WHY we have to start having these conversations now.

Rapidly approaching the time when there is organizing and strikes and nothing else. You want something, you strike. No law. Only strikes. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/dark-times...

LGBTQIA minors make up 40% of the endangered minor runaway population. They are 120% more likely to be unhoused. They are also uniquely at risk for exploitation and trafficking. This is breathtakingly evil.

TIL: Portland’s 1 of -if not the- 1st cities in country to have workers doing unhoused support/anti-poverty work to Unionize. Since we’ve seen workers organize in @ least Denver CO, Boston MA, Troy NY, &DC Ppl in anti-poverty work deserve dignified, living wage work nwlaborpress.org/2013/12/new-...
