I always have this image in my head of there being like a suit of armor or leathers (or whatever the modern fantasy equivalent is) that he had when he was “active” and it just kinda hangs lonely on a hook in the closet. Because even when he’s “normal” sized he’s a lot bigger then he started.

Truly. I’m happy as a clam to just have a water out at a bar. And yea it’s easier to not feel the need when you know everybody but having long been the 3rd/5th/7th wheel friend. There is definitely a level of like “take the giving a shit edge off” - does it hurt that I primarily get a body high? No.

As I cut back on drinking as my focus in powerlifting and gym related goal grew I did find that while I didn’t need booze I did sometimes miss the social lubricants. it wasn’t until last year I got introduced to THC seltzers and those have become my preferred method. Due to how controlled it feels.

So that’s actually something we have in common (although for me it was much more I’ve got been queer to deal with let’s not add more lying) and while it wasn’t an spiral I wasn’t always a fan of the inconsistent way that smoking would hit me. So I stayed away for the last few years myself.
