We will never get a Nemesis-Like System ever again ...
Well, I guess it's another Point-of-Intrest collectathon for the next decade.

You know, it will be interesting what the rw culture warrior reaction to this show will be.
a) they'll call "woke" and "the fall of the west" because of "DEI" casting
b) they'll bend-over backwards to try and make it work for them, because the the LGBTQ+ progressive left that dislike Rowling a lot

Really kind of Randy to take some heat of Bungie's shoulders as the internet's punching bag.
Well played.

You might want to not post un-edited inventory screens ... as there is technically a spoiler in there.

They gotta delay it and re-vamp it from the ground up.
With all the red-flags, this isn't going to be it.

Ok, ALEPH has apparently origins with Marathon, still ... that's just ass.
The excuse "we mistook external fan-art for internal concept art" ... If you like someone's work, then hire them. Even if it's just for a one-time gig.

What's the point in trusting Bungie's "design language" if it's just ripped from someone else.
Like, what's "ALEPH"? Some kind of organization important in the lore? ... Nothing apparently, because they seemingly stole the text from someone else.
This blows.

Will there be any changes to reduce FOMO in the game?
Time-limit on Rewards Passes seems very outdated.

The big "problem" is that Bungie hedges their future on this game.
A game with a narrow target-audience, that only appeals to players under very specific circumstances ... that's alright for a "side project" with small budget and small expected profits, growing over years. Not their next flagship.

The Oblivion remaster isn't valid until I can swing my sword, duplicate 102 Skooma flasks, chug as much as I can and fly from one end of the map to the other in seconds.

I obviously knew what HD2 and LC are, but never put 2 and 2 together, realizing thst these are very close to the Extraction Formula.
The only thing you'd need to change for HD2 is to have some form of loosing your equipment and having to re-earn it again.

Honestly I'm mostly concern about price and seasonal model.
They cannot charge full-price for this, if they are aiming for 2 smaller expansions every year, while having season-passes on top of it.
And the seasonal model itself is barely hanging on at this point, they have to change it, somehow.

We can only go with what we already have as benchmarks, things like Overwatch. It promised story, but all we usually get is cinematic as an add and maybe a short-story.
I hope I am wrong and they pull it off, and they can craft a "meta narrative" but the track-record of PvP-only games isn't great.

Pivoting to something that would appeal to D2 players wouldn't be the solution either. As it they'd end up poaching from themselves. Maybe if D2 development will wind down, this would be a good idea, but we don't know that.
I fear that if M ends up an L, it won't stop with just it shutting down.

It *might* happen. Marvel Rivals poached a ton of players from Overwatch AND attracted a ton of old and new gamers back into Hero Shooters. I would have never expected that.
But I don't see that happening with a fairly niche genre like Extraction-PvP-Shooters.
comment in response to

I get that it just might not be for *me* but I also don't see why someone who has invested hundreds of hours into a different Extraction-PvP-Game or Battle Royal would swap to it.
If it cannot attract a new audience, it has to poach an existing one. And the existing one isn't that big to begin with

There is also even the question if there are enough players who might be interested in trying the game out in the first place.
I'm sure some Tarkov/Hunt/Battle-Royale Players will give it a try, particularly if their Dev's shit the bed. But hoping other devs mess up isn't a viable business strategy

I don't see why someone who's into the "fantasy" of a dystopian tech-future like that would pick up a "high stakes" PvP-Game.
I don't see why someone who has sunk-cost in Tarkov/Hunt might swap to it.
I don't see why someone would swap from more "casual" PvP games like FN and PUBG to it.

For better or worse, "Extraction" games are still fairly niche. Having one new "solid" game (that isn't Tarkov) might be enough to cause a splash.
But I admit, I honestly don't see why this game would be "the one" to break the mold. I don't see the spark that will cause a wildfire.
comment in response to

I know they don't want to cannibalize the remaining D2 playerbase, but I almost feel like they should have.
The "vibes" are there, but I don't see
a) a bridge to get "casual" players into a "hardcore" game-type
b) a reason why others should drop their other "hardcore" games inf favor of this.

Man I wish this was a game where I could create my own character and follow them into some existential dread.
Oh well, "hero shooter" PvP with no real character attachment it is, with story only ever presented between repetitive PvP missions.

And that takes in account that (to me) Hunt was only ever fun with a friend... and sometimes you just don't have one around for those games.
The "barrier of entrance" seems just far too high from my point of view.
comment in response to

Hunt makes sure it doesn't hurt "too much" if you loose, but I feel like without spending a few hours you don't really "get" that. Instead, you see the "you'll loose everything you earned" float around, and it doesn't even want to get casual players to try.
comment in response to

I (casually) played some Extraction games last year.
I had my fun with Hunt, but IMO it's just not something that will appeal to "casual" (paying) customers. The idea that you might loose days worth of progress in a second, isn't fun if you don't have the time to just hop in and re-grind it.

I always felt a "PvE Extraction Game" would have had legs ...
You deploy, start doing PvE activities on the map, and after a random amount of time warnings start popping up to "leave as soon as possible" ... or stay for even better rewards, but if you die, all's gone.

I hope I'm wrong, and this will will be a smash-hit.
But a part of me wishes this were actually a D2 replacement, one that takes all the short-comings of D2 and actually re-invents the "live service looter shooter" with new fresh paint on top of it.

It doesn't seem "revolutionary" enough to attract massive amounts of players from other games (not just Extraction, but also BRs).
And players that might be interested into the "story" of Marathon will be pushed off because of the intense PvP.
comment in response to
post
Honestly, I just cannot see this game hold player-attention as an PvP-extraction shooter. Those are notoriously hard to "sell" to casual players.
The "vibes" are there, but I've seen the sentiment several times on reddit now: "I wish this wasn't a PvP game".
comment in response to

I really hope there is something to be enjoyed about this game for people not interested in the exclusive PvP (assuming it still is) Gameplay ... the art direction seems like a banger.
comment in response to

The big question I have with Marathon is, how will Bungie make it appealing to casual players?
Getting people to commit to a PvP game is hard enough, but extraction-games are even harder. I've stuck some toes into those last year, and it's very much a different beat.

A bit of a tangent:
Also kinda "funny" how it's now suddenly okay to think about cultural representation and hire VAs from overseas with accents matching the nations that inspired GI locations.
But when you bring up the pale-ass skin color of the south-american or middle-easterm nation, it's bad.

Obligatory "I supported and like the English Dub VAs until it became inconvenient to me" posts.
On the note of "scabs": I really feel like most people don't know how workers used to treat scabs a hundred years ago. I'm not advocating for violence, but it wasn't rare Scabs were confronted with it.
