I haven't played a bunch of stuff though, so BG3, Expedition 33 and some other games I suspect would be on this list might be here.

Some of the stuff I really wanted to include were just outside 2020. Shout out to 13 Sentinels, more people should play that.

I'd believe that. I seriously doubt that we really met recommended specs, if not barely clearing required specs.
I also didn't quite understand updating software back in those days, so any improvements made were lost to me.
Super interesting to read about today though, real groundbreaking work.

I think my weird aversion and distrust of emulation actually stems from that core experience.
It was a physical shock when I found out that Final Fantasy 7 wasn't supposed to *be* that way.

No, its even worse. The Switch 2 port is $10 more for a key card. $10 more than the Switch, PS4, PS5 and PC.
Absolutely insane pricing, I don't even know what's really going on anymore.

The ghost of Jim Ryan continue to haunt us all I see.
Seriously, the live service push sucks so much lol.

They should honestly just have offered to ship games with data on Switch 1 carts instead.
It doesn't eliminate the install factor, but it would have dodged all the bad press and been available at exactly the same price as before.

I've seen it implied that the manufacturing source Nintendo has for the SD Express cards won't bother with anything less than 64GB.
That said, if they *can't* go lower or cheaper, its Nintendo's fault for pushing a technology that isn't reasonable for their partners.

25. Still Wakes the Deep: Siren's Rest (PS5)🎮
Was excited for this when it was announced. Oddly nostalgic for the base game, even though its only like a year old? Very short, but I like their story telling and atmosphere. But I enjoyed all of it. Base game is also sweet, so recommend both.

No no, that was real and cool.
Abandoned was a project that fed into hype rumors that it was secretly made by Kojima, but it absolutely was not.
It tried to preview a trailer in an app on PS and it was a total mess. Didn't work for days and it was just the same trailer they showed before.

Obviously, a lot of this wouldn't have worked for the Live Selection moments, but I still wish control didn't feel like it was so frequently taken away.
Its still an above average game, but it and its remake are my least favorite RE games.

I think this gets dismissed as cheap jump scares, but a lot of those moments from RE 1 & 2 are going to stay with me forever.
Maybe its a system limitation from the time? But I feel like having those moments happen more while under player control would have been better.

I'm still collecting my thoughts, but I think the core of my issues is how often the game takes control away to show something happening. Say, more zombies are pouring in from a window, etc. In most cases in the previous games, that just happened in gameplay. And to me, it made things more tense.

24. Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (PS1) 🎮
I kind of don't really love this. I also don't love the remake, but I'm not sure that the cut content would have saved my opinion of the remake anymore.
Its still an above average game, and better than the remake. But I really did not enjoy a lot of this one.

I'm exhausted by people being shitty to Switch 2 early adopters. I feel buying in early is still not worth it and the harassment sucks.
But friends, you're getting price gouged by someone on this chain of supply. Card keys are supposed to cost *less* because they're simple. You deserve better.
comment in response to
post
Game card keys don't even *run* anything. They just download the game to local storage, what on god's green earth could make this cost more.
I'm trying to be less angry and negative about the Switch 2, but shit like this makes it so hard.

This is usually the point in a console's lifespan that talk about the specs for next gen begin.
It feels SUPER weird and early because this generation feels abnormally young. And I don't think that feeling is wrong, in this case I think its reality. This gen didn't really "start".

This was effectively the first RPG that I ever played as a child. Had me chasing that high on other platforms and games for a long time.
Hugely important game to me.

THAT SAID, I still prefer the Remake for 2. Its mostly first-game bias speaking though. But I kinda didn't really find the zapping system that compelling? I also really like the expanded bits of the story and setting.
Still, I totally get the hype people must have had for this back in the day.

23. Resident Evil 2 (PS1)🎮
The first was fun enough and I found a copy online for a price I didn't feel totally awful about. So I got it, and immediately dove into it. Banger game, big leap forward for the series and the genre.

I've always wondered if backwards compatibility on the Wii had done something to the impression people have of the GC these days. Cause it really didn't sell all that great by the numbers.

There's like zero chance this is going to go to anyone but bots. I still like this series, and I still like expensive boxes full of stuff I don't really need.
Its just going to feel like ass when like all 1500 show up on ebay for 10x the retail price. Fuck scalpers.

22. Metal Gear Solid (PS1)🎮
I thought I hadn't beaten this before, but I recalled most of the plot half way through. Was still fun, think I beat Twin Snakes before? I do think its my least favorite MGS, but its been awhile. Probably going to play the others eventually to refresh my impression.

I don't recognize the tool that shows that data, where is it from? Is this just some feature of steam or SteamDB that I managed to miss?

The impulse buy thing is a lie and I know it, but I do think I should start a spreadsheet or something to manage what I want from older generations.

Holy shit I didn't even notice that. Its really going to be another MBs of code in a box again isn't it.

Anyway, certification pricing appears to be confidential, I'm unable to find numbers and what I can find suggests its negotiated differently per publisher.
All platform holders do it, but Xbox got it all on disc and Sony didn't. The Nintendo launch is the first, so it makes sense to bundle it all.

I actually didn't know that the Forbidden West had the DLC on cart, which I think is the first Sony owned game that did that. BG3 doesn't have DLC, in this sense though does it? Just free updates? I don't think those are treated as different SKUs in the sense that the DLC is treated.

I think I'll be waiting for a revision at best, maybe an OLED model. Hopefully by then something 1st party will speak to me. But this unit felt like a must buy months ago before they actually showed it to me.
And that feels weird.
comment in response to

Feel like the same. I've enjoyed Mario Kart but I don't feel compelled to spend that much for the combined sticker price. 3rd party is ports I already have or have no interest.
BC is nice, but I want to spend that much for better performance on stuff I already have right now.
comment in response to

Sony charges a shit ton of money to certify games on their platform and a combined base game + DLC on disc would be a new SKU they'd charge for. So its cheaper to release the same game release on disc and a code for the DLC.
This is on Sony's end, its intentional and it sucks.

21. Resident Evil: Director's Cut (PS1)🎮
The REmake of 1 is my 1st game in the genre, so it has a very nostalgic place in my heart. This was my first time playing the original and loved it. All the classic lines were highly entertaining to experience myself. Really great time, glad I played this.

OK, settled on Resident Evil 1. Trailer for RE9 was like, yesterday, and made me nostalgic for this one.
MGS also carries the risk of making me want to try playing the new Kojima game, Death Stranding. Which I don't think I'm ready for yet.

Cleaned the lens, made sure to clear any debris and test before re-assembly went good! Put it all together and it should be ready for use.
Now to decide if I want to play MGS 1 or Resident Evil 1 first.
Played both at friends but never finished the OGs.

Got the same urge too lol. I've been playing some other PS2 games, so I'm planning to pick up the Onimusha games to give them a go. Never played them before and don't really have any expectations. Should be interesting.

If you can get a refund and do see value in the current offering, I'd say go for it. Not like it'll be unavailable later, once the line up offering starts to mature.

20. Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus 🎮
Somehow, I never played any of the Sly games on the PS2. Really enjoyed this one. The opening hours are some of the best in the genre from this era. Didn't finish quite as strong, but just weaker, rather than bad.

I really do not understand how button layout/labeling isn't a common feature in modern PC games. Every time its been a struggle to get things mapped right to the kind of controller I'm using.
