I haven't seen this show yet, but think I'll have to catch it now. Nice write-up by @ostrichson.bsky.social.

*Really, really interesting*!

"The tough lesson for English Sparkling Wine producers is that even good copies rarely overcome first mover advantage. I mean, why would you buy a SEAT if you’ve got a VW in the drive already?" by @atkinsonmw.bsky.social on @timatkinmw.bsky.social

I missed this year end review of John Martyn's 1973 album Solid Air. Pitchfork gave it a 10. I can't guarantee it'll be a 10 on your own scale, but I can assure you that this is worth listening to. And the review is a great read in and of itself. So give both a try. pitchfork.com/reviews/albu...

I’m short so I am decidedly not a member of the Reacher sized community but there are several anecdotes in the comments that made me laugh (for real, not using hyperbole) that I think this is worth sharing.

I see they started with the copyeditors.

From Todos Los Santos Lake. In the 1st photo you can see the Southern Cross rising above the Andes with the incredible Magellanic Cloud streaking across the darkness. And in the second, stars above the Osorno Volcano. Last time we were here it was cloudy; this is a real blessing #astrophotography

It’s a dirty job but someone has to do it: tasted 10 sample bottles last night. When we have so many bottles to uncork, we like to invite our most frequent clients to try them with us. Wine of night was a lovely red blend from a small project called Viñateros de Raíz with all of 1.2 ha. #wine

I hadn’t realized that i didn’t know what that font was called until I read this. But *do* read this love letter to Gorton. It’s a great read.

I love that the Princess Bride is its own category thanks to the R.O.U.S.

Who’s up to taking in a performance of Vivaldi’s 4 Seasons in a 14th Century gothic chapel? If you are, & you find yourself in #Mexico City I can’t recommend it enough. There are performances now & thru March at the “capilla gótica” that’s part of the Instituto Cultural Helénico on Revolución St.

New blog: Wine's search for new drinkers: the wine trade is fretting about losing young drinkers, so I held a tasting for my daughter and her twenty-something friends to see if I could convert the next generation. Plus: what I've been drinking this week aviewfrommytable.substack.com/p/wines-sear...

#Mexico #Wine These photos don’t do it justice and that’s on me, but wine geeks visiting Mex City should make their way to Bar SiMon on Zacatecas St in Roma. Winemaker & proprietor César Margain only stocks bottles from small scale producers. Very reasonable. I had a 6 wine flight for US 20.

I was led to believe by R.E.M. that I would feel a lot better about this.

If you visit México City *do* visit the new (opened in SEP’24) Museo Vivo de Muralismo for the incredible murals in what used to be the home of the Secretary of Public Education. Most of the them are by Diego Rivera & his assistants but Siqueiros’ mural, which took him decades, is amazing. #mexico

This is an amazing playlist. It lives up to the “God Tier” monicker. Enjoy.

Got a nice shot of old friend Orion last night. (He might look a bit different to you, though, depending upon where you’re from.) #astrophotography

"If you’re still completely preoccupied with how much it smells like a fresh dump up in your world, I encourage you to remember, when people ask you “How’s it going in the wine industry?” that you fell in love with wine at some point for some wonderful reason."

Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce. Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.

@mattzollerseitz.bsky.social hits it out of the park with this appreciation of David Lynch and his work.

Really enjoyed this podcast as the @switchedonpop.bsky.social boys declare their jingle sucks and go about developing a new one. I actually learned some things about musical production; they made me LOL in real life; and the new jingle is cool. Kudos! podcasts.apple.com/cl/podcast/s...

For the very first time, ever, when at 5 a.m. our cats, Mila and Ali, woke me up for their breakfast this morning … their bowls were well and truly empty. (But it was too early to take a picture of this historic development, so instead here are their pictures taken at more humane times of the day)

Such lovely photos taken by one of Mt Fuji’s biggest admirers, @gaijinmommy.bsky.social (When I went to Lake Kawaguchi it was rainy and misty and I didn’t even see Fuji….)

Edge of Tomorrow is one of those movies that I can watch over and over again and I never get bored. It's so much fun and effective. I think that this article is spot on in explaining why it works so well. If you haven't seen it, *do* give it a chance. Now I'm going to have to go watch it again...
