📌 Great thread. Many thanks for sharing. We're going to start rolling out Instructional Coaching much more widely to underpin our CPD offer next year and I'll definitely use this to feed into our Action Research group thinking. Cheers

Thanks Claire. I wouldn't have tried this 5/6 years ago but we're an archetypal 'turnaround' school and we've had to build a solid base first, where Action Research is imbued with a sense of 'how we do it' in our setting.

The idea being that over time that staff have more autonomy over what they work on. Meaning the 'sage on the stage' type CPD will be much less frequent and didactic. Hopefully this will lead to better engagement from all staff.

For the last 4 years we've run cross curricular AR groups whose findings have informed whole school CPD, which the group (about 5 staff) then deliver e.g. use of MWB, visualiser, learning organisers, progress of boys. This year we're going to run a 'big' Action Research on Instructional Coaching.

📌 Great thread thanks Claire. Action Research is becoming more central to what we do as we move to more of a teacher led CPD model. The results of the AR feeds into whole school CPD. We are going to couple this with broader use of Instructional Coaching next year.

Apologies if presumptious @beckyfrancis.bsky.social but I wrote this longish thing about why I think our problem is how the system makes its compromises in favour of those who find learning easiest. You may find interesting. Or not! bennewmark.wordpress.com/2023/04/29/w...
