It’s that time of year for Murray Davis’ mediation on what makes a theory “interesting” and, therefore, footnoted. Sadly , many of my earlier theory papers were written too formally and thus may be uninteresting (tho it is possible they are just uninteresting, too) #sociology

Behold: automated collection, parsing, and matching of acknowledgments from seven ASA sections, covering award-winning publications (and a few comparators) spanning 1979-present! Fine-tuning still, but looks face-valid!

Since this is back… Unfortunately, academic inflation and toxic productivity culture has all but done away with this. The effects of this on science advancement will be seen for generations. Slowing down and thinking deeply is essential to solve complex problems and it’s undervalued at every level
