As Congress takes up the issue of universal vouchers in the ECCA, let FL be a warning: Nearly 70% of new voucher recipients this year were already enrolled in private schools. 40% came from families too wealthy to have qualified under the original rules. www.tampabay.com/opinion/2025...

100 days into this presidency, Americans are paying the price - higher prices, crashing retirement accounts, and broken promises. But the American people are turning, thanks to your voices. Keep it up. It's up to us to demand something better.

Let’s start with the basics.

Her husband is a US citizen and her 1 year old daughter was still breastfeeding. But she was put on a plane to Cuba with her daughter still in Tampa. Donald Trump’s America - cruel, ruthless, anti-family. www.miamiherald.com/news/local/i...

It was never just about schools, it was never just about libraries, and it isn't actually about the books. It's about finding a way to banish entire people, entire ideas, out of society, back into the closet or worse. www.chron.com/politics/art...

Cuz guns don't harm kids, books do SMH

“Any school leader needs to make sure there’s a seat at the table for their librarians. Whatever goal, whatever the continuous improvement plan for the school, the librarian has to be there...They’re critical to the success of the school.” #AASLslm

Beware: Flagler Porn ahead nypost.com/2025/04/17/u...

I put a hold on Ed Martin’s nomination. He’s denied elections. Fired quality public servants. Attempted to chill free speech. Turns out he’s also carrying water for the Kremlin. So wholly unfit to be a U.S. Attorney.

Trump voter: It's been awful. I'm sorry. I had to get an oil change and it cost me $10 more. I voted for Trump for the grocery store prices to come down. Nothing's come down. They're talking about your cell phones, your cars, and everything is just going higher

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made. -FS Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, published 4/10/1925.

It’s a version of the “err on the side of caution” guidance. Local leaders dictate what is prohibited and purchased for school and public libraries. Librarians are pressured to ignore the needs of the people they serve in favor of meeting intentionally vague state expectations.

Harper Collins didn't sign on to protect libraries. The other big four publishers (including my publisher, Penguin Random House) did. They are also part of the Murdoch empire. Imagine being a publishing house and NOT supporting library funding. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

These companion bills have each made it through one committee in both the Florida House and Senate. This means one of them can still become law this session, if leaders want to use them as bargaining chips. Watch our press conference with @authorsabb.bsky.social: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYi_...

Please share: If you have a child or grandchild who relies on AP, DE, or other acceleration programs offered in public schools, you must contact your legislators now! The budget bills are scheduled to be heard on Wednesday, 4/9/25. Don't wait. #HB5101 #SB2510 accountabaloney.com/floridas-bud...

1) Fox News is for real not showing stock-market ticker during this week's collapse. 2) Its economic news is "strong jobs report." 3) Every time I've checked in today, the coverage has been "illegal immigrants committing new crimes." This is state propaganda, on a par with North Korea or PRC.

THIS IS TERRIFYING‼️ Dr. Peter Marks, former head of vaccines at the FDA, just had his last day—forced to resign or be fired because he wouldn’t lie about vaccines. He gives a chilling warning: the U.S. is unprepared for biowarfare—because the response team has been gutted.

At the same time, they are trying to pass legislation to deal with excessive absences. Having middle schoolers work overnight shifts on school nights should help with absences, right? SMH

A little nature for you

News from Tallahassee: SB 1692 died in committee today. HB 1539 (the version that still impacts booksellers and public libraries) is on Wednesday’s agenda in the House Education Administration Committee. Please call and email to vote “NO” on HB 1539! www.flhouse.gov/Sections/Com...

Good morning, Mr. Cardinal #birdbuddy app.mybirdbuddy.com/media/dayton...

The bill sponsor filed an amendment. While it no longer threatens state funding and certain terms are firmed up by citing 847.001, this new version would completely prohibit any age appropriate sexual content at the HS level (like descriptions of sexual assault). m.flsenate.gov/session/bill...

#SB1692's Sen McClain thinks books with nudity are harmful to minors, particularly in elementary schools and doesn't care if books like "No, David!" are permantly removed from school libraries. Millions of collective LOCAL funding for our children have been thrown out the window trying to comply with these ever-changing regulations. The only state funding for any of this has been the $9M+ given to the FLDOE over the last two years for the “transparency tool” (still under development).

"We aren't banning books st schools because they are still available at the public library"...Until they aren't. Alabama board defunds local library for failing to protect teens from ‘inappropriate’ books www.cnn.com/2025/03/22/u...

Intimidation used to quash 1A rights (in this case, freedom of the press) is a crisis, yet similar playbook in school & public libraries since 2021 is framed as a “culture war” pendulum swing? They always start where it’s easiest to divide us. It all matters. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

#SB1692 would define any material depicting nudity or sexual content as harmful to minors, regardless of literary value... "If it is in violation of the proposed law, if it’s that, then it’s considered pornographic and it’s considered harmful to minors.” www.heraldtribune.com/story/news/p...

They are breaking Social Security, because they do not like Social Security.

If we created a post with all of the education-related bills in FL that need your attention, we would likely overwhelm you to the point of inaction. Instead, we decided to highlight three of the worst bills specifically impacting the information available in K12 curriculum and libraries. #ToDo

Trump froze shipment of millions of dollars’ worth of food to hungry Americans, including 12 truckloads slated for Maryland. What do we tell hungry families? The president is spending billions on shocking military boondoggles but feeding the hungry is “government waste.”
