I also love when it gets bad enough that like celestials start showing up like "Ok, knock it off now"

I love the idea that at some point the dynamics just flip and now the party are the villains and real heroes/mercenaries are hunting them down for their crimes lol

And unless the PCs are somehow far above the norm, there are authorities and mechanisms capable of addressing them. A murder or two in a small town might be escapable but if you start killing your way across the countryside that starts to draw the attention of bounty hunters or adventurers

Not that VtM is guilty of this but the blood pool, hunger, feeding, humanity loop is a great example. You could show someone all the mechanics and they might imagine how they fit together but you almost need to see the gameplay machine in motion to get it.

Bounty hunters, guards, vampire hunters, the camarilla, other gangs, secret agencies
Almost every system and setting has obvious punishment mechanisms that should come into play when characters are acting in socially unacceptable ways that exceed the latitude their character has earned narratively

Here's the DTRPG link for the digital standard edition

And the BAM link for the physical special edition. Sadly no digital special AFAIK

Lol sadly I didn't get to include that part. Word limits got tight on those factions. The other faction is basically "What if Plato became a vampire and started turning other historical geniuses into undead to preserve their genius forever?" which was also a lot of fun to play with 😅

And if you can try to snag the special edition. It has a special cover but also it has four additional locations and two additional factions which I contributed most of.
It's the only place to find the wild Laden Table faction run by deadly assassin Julia Child and cannibal lizardwoman Guy Fieri

Big thank you to Jeff and Phil who keep inviting me back for these crazy books.
Also, please ignore the hair. The humidity here is like 95%

I'm 90% sure it's from Portlandia. It's more of a surreal skit show but it's pretty funny. Armisen and Brownstein play some of the wildest characters

Honestly part of why I loved my small school experience. My professors would write a paper or two a year and a book every like 10. Mostly just because they wanted to. The teaching was really centered by the administration. I still keep up with a lot of them & run into them in professional circles

Also, Books-A-Million has a special edition with bonus content and alternate cover!

I'm so hyped! I'm driving like 40 minutes tomorrow to go pick up my Special Edition. I can't believe my cannibal lizardfolk Guy Fieri versus Assassin Julia Childs monster cooking faction made it to print 😅

I like that it has the ability to satirize a place and a people and a culture but with a genuine sense of love and respect. You can definitely see the Parks and Rec DNA in it
I also love Mike Judge's intricate art and characterization guides he made for the show.

I studied philosophy and ethics and reading a bunch of like early economists/philosophers desperately trying to figure out a logical explanation for ownership is a hoot
"Well, I took nature and mixed it with my labor and now it's mine"
Alright, sure bud.

Also Paul gets so mad in the Book of Galatians that he basically says of his opponents (advocating for Christian circumcision) "If only the knife had slipped and the priest had cut your dick clean off"

The college stoner who says "But like, what is money really? Can we even own anything?" Is dangerously close to some third rail academic economics topics lol

Honestly a lot of the coolest weirdest stuff gets sanded off. It's not my area of super specific expertise but Jewish midrashic interpretation goes to some wild, cool places that would be very interesting to explore

I had to teach a room of 80 yo's this. We use the term scaffolding now. The things people attach, for good and for bad, to help them navigate the Bible. A lot of folks don't know they're actually parroting fiction or something a weird dead confederate conman said, not what the text actually conveys.

I live in a constant war with bad incoherent pop theology that is way less interesting and meaningful than what's actually written. Rarely is the text less interesting/cool than how people present/execute it

Also hell is a made up word mashing together like 10 different concepts and doesn't actually have a clear Greek or Hebrew parallel in the text. The Gospel of Matthew has zombies and the Gospel of Mark has a naked disciple streaking away from the arrest of Jesus.

Watching Zhuge Liang in a modern day rap battle invoking Three Kingdoms history and ancient poetry 😂

I think D&D-killer is an unhelpful term that cropped up along the way. I think in the end market diversification will come from lots of small companies managing to grab a few % points here and there. Maybe a Paizo or DP grabbing 10-20. WotC holding a plurality instead of a near monopoly

I can't believe the wild swings people take online sometimes. Like, are there a limited number of game designer badges and we are running out? Why do we need to kick people out? Just let people do things and be happy for them (or, at a minimum, just shut up and say nothing lol) 😅

It's a modern fairy tale. It's OK to let Nani love Lilo and sacrifice for her but also get some nice things for herself too in the end. Loving your family and taking care of them shouldn't be equated with martyrdom
comment in response to

Yup, it's been driving me nuts. And to be honest, Nani's ending has always kinda sucked. Lilo gets her special magical friend and adventure forever and Nani works harder and harder and sacrifices all her dreams for her. And it never changes over 4 movies and a tv show

Lol sorry! We were wrapping this up about this time last year. I got to put a ribbon on it and do the bonus content too so I'm hyped to go pick one up.
(I have author copies coming eventually but they're not day 1 delivery lol)
