If they were smarter they’d have done it a year ago when people were grouchy about Beyonce’s song being shut out of the country categories. Probably would have gotten them a good PR cycle. But then they wouldn’t be the Grammys.

“(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” is a baffling one, too. Four words is a totally normal title length.

I do think the Grammy should have put more of the “why” into the press release

I actually like this move. Shunt the traditionalists off to their own category, make sure more traditional country isn’t eclipsed, and open the door for more stuff like Beyoncé without a lot of gatekeeping. Seems like a win to me.

Jesus Christ. I had to catch my breath after that description of “Surf’s Up”. Some of your best writing, which is saying something.

Easily two of the top candidates in the “best living American music artist” conversation gone. Stevie’s lonely at the top now

Honestly while you don’t do it for that, sometimes it’s what gets you out of bed to do the job for another couple weeks.

How is that theater still standing? Jesus

I was so captivated by her in Gorillas in the Mist, too.

My wife before it’s even over: “So we’re seeing that, yeah?”

They say this this is not the best of discourse, but it’s the only discourse we’ve ever knooooooown.

These people also hate that he used non-violence in The Last Jedi. Make up your goddamn minds.

Gotta get up, gotta get out (to the patio).

Fitting for this season.

Had no idea they were Boston-based. Gotta find a record to throw on.

He makes such an enormous impression in just 5 episodes of Parks and Rec. Gets a couple of the biggest laughs in the series.

Amadeus doesn’t get enough credit for how fun and unstuffy it is. And man, The Bad and the Beautiful is great. I need to go back to that.

Entirely lost on these half-wits that Jesus raised the dead and healed the sick and never once said “Ah fuck it, you’ll meet me in heaven anyway. Why bother?”

I’d also object slightly on behalf of Dorothy Sayers.

The lack of Nathan Chapman is inescapable on the TV re-recordings.

My higher level students are required to use a physical book source from the library on their research papers for this reason. For the lower level kids, I’ll just take the W on them engaging with scholarly work.

This fucker has proved fairly elusive. I’ve still never seen it

Not to kiss-ass, but this is why your review is always the first I look for. EXACTLY what I felt about the movie but couldn’t quite put my finger on. It’s Dickens.

If you put a gun to my head and asked my favorite performance of all time, I might say Claudia McNeil in Raisin. Jesus Christ she’s incredible. I see it 3-4 times a year in my classes and it just never gets less terrific.

Poking fun at Cold War tensions with Chekhov’s “nuclear wessels” is delightful, too.

Sometimes I’d pick Jaws just to taunt my opponent

I stand by it being the closest we’ll ever get to Malick in space

Chic is also a good cause, though they did put Nile in on his own

Most elegant one I can currently think of: Sly and The Family Stone

Glad it’s found its recognition for the absolute classic that it is.

Incredible film

Almost all the critics and experts and voices I care about are on here regularly now. Do not miss the old place at all.

The story said live performances actively exacerbated the condition, which is a huge bummer.

Yep this is the one

Or is it trying to protect you from terrible music. Silver lining.

Funny thing is to find a film, he’d gladly have narrated anything you wanted for cash. But he’s not here to agree so fucking gross

Thanks! I’ve always found the bar for entry in opera kind of intimidatingly high so it helps to know where to start.

Any particular opera or two you’d recommend to a complete neophyte?

And the degree of how long you’re willing to stick to it would be charted on the Y-glesias Axis

I’d like to vote for calling it a Nate Silver Medal

If you can ever track down Mike Nesmith’s Elephant Ears film, there’s a sketch that parodies this trope hilariously.

Yep! And the related category of the disaffected reluctant hero (e.g. Han Solo, Rick Blaine)
