After the drama in the TTRPG industry with a man probably publishing tweets using his girlfriend’s account while she was comatose in hospital…
Mrs Dutton, blink three times if you need help!

You'd think they'd have figured out chainmail, and then updated to at least a basic ceramic plate. It wouldn't be a stretch to have some ambitious bastard make a carbon fibre case to go around your heart as well.

Freight onto the rails.
Set up a passenger rail service that can cut down on fossil fuel use between Brisbane-Sydney-Melbourne. We *can* do these things, and they'd be better for AUS than second airports and yet another toll-tunnel.

... Open sourcing the robots will magically change human psychology? Let's say I doubt Open Source Robots will make people doomscroll less.
Who is going to clean the dishes?
Who is going to make the next robot?
Who wants everything replaced by a robot?

"The robots will make the robots..." and who owns the robots? Who makes the robots?
"People won't need to..."
My Brother In Christ, do you think Bezos has needs anymore? Has that stopped that asshole wanting more? Are you assuming that enough robots will suddenly change human psychology?

I mean, clearly they are a pizza or tart: single starch item, toppings are on the surface, savoury items, sauce can be any location.

Same here. Mandatory elections makes it so the government actually tries to help you vote.

Bruenig used to hang in MMT Facebook circles until he got chased out for bad faith arguing. Holding his name up tells me more than you care to say.

January 2024: "Providing people with cash payments has benefits, but guaranteed employment and public services are a better option for transforming our economy." - Jason Hickel

Hickel's own recent work doesn't mention UBI on the exact same topic as I'm talking about. You'd think if it was a ride-or-die item he'd have mentioned it on this article from 2023.

Also, if you think you understand MMT, and advocate for a UBI, then you've really never read the work of founding scholar Bill Mitchell.
Go deep dive his blog for a while, he's only been talking about UBI since 2009. Just a cool 15y on and off.

If we have a market economy, then a UBI can do nothing to improve the situation for those it claims to want to help most. Like the First Home Buyer's Grant for the last 40y it will do nothing but ensure the money flows up and you pay more to get the same or worse.

You should read Hickel's more recent writing. He's moved away from UBI more and more over time. That's why I mentioned Hickel, because he's evolved as he has learned and hence abandoned UBI for Universal Services.
comment in response to

UBI is useless if we have proper universal services; it cannot and will not solve any dysfunction in an economy because it is yet another 'market solution'.

I think we already are, basically.
It doesn't take much to see some Tory being totally fine with it. With the thrashing the Tories got not that long ago, can you look at them and not say "Oh yeah, that prick could take 5m Pounds in donations and give Joanne his personal number."

Oh I love the potential linguistic screwup of that proverb. Old languages like that tend to omit vowels, and hence 'ship's mooring rope' and 'camel' have identical written forms that you'd interpret from context.
That proverb could easily be "Easier to put a mooring rope in a sewing needle..."

Yeah only the good bits, like Leviticus, but not all of it. And Revelation (the abridged version).
