Talked to so many people who were at the first protests of their lives today. Ex-Republicans, introverts, 90-year-olds and 3-year-olds. This was at an intersection in a 60,000 person town. Haven’t felt hope like this in my life.

A reminder there's no clear or demonstrable category as 'grooming gangs', that white men are far more likely statistically to engage in child abuse and grooming, and that the discussion on grooming gangs is based on debunked research and racist misinformation. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I hope we keep at least two of our five jets nearby just in case... www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

Yes surely he will take a moment to step away from the fascist military parade he organized in his owm honor to condemn the political assassinations he deliberately provoked.

Jesus. The juxtaposition of these two posts back to back is just...

Walz announces that Rep. Melissa Hortman is dead as a result of a "politically motivated assassination"

Accounts with photos of picked plants and flowers and how viewing plants and flowers helps our mental health... I genuinely look at them and think "You harmed that plant or flower by picking it". So they don't do my mental health any good.

Brian Wilson at Glastonbury 2005 - if you can watch it, you should. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/live...

BBC Four now showing Brian Wilson's Glastonbury set from 2005, and there is such an air of fragilty and yet absolute genius about him

There’s a ’65 Pontiac GTO for sale in Axminster, if anyone’s interested. And honestly, you should be interested. FB Marketplace, obviously.

Ten writers by whom I’ve read more than five books: Jim Harrison Jack Kerouac William S. Burroughs Charles Bukowski Hunter S. Thompson Martin Amis Thomas McGuane George Orwell David Foster Wallace (four, not including Infinite Jest) Virginia Woolf (three; included to counter the above)

And one further point on this: the reason I think Bluesky and the underlying ATprotocol are actually so important is that they are fundamentally set up to allow people to create their own communities and their own culture, without demanding that a company decide it for them.

#NowPlaying Mad nostalgia - 1996 was a good year, one of the best of my life. www.last.fm/user/Guerril...

Took a bet from Chris Sutton at Salisbury racecourse. He's tall.

"Even as Wilson increasingly navigated mental health challenges and struggles with drugs and alcohol, he kept his beachy early days as a touchstone, a nostalgic place he’d revisit ..." Likewise. www.theguardian.com/music/2025/j...

Anyone who thinks LA is full of socialists has never taken a meeting at a studio

You’ll be too young to remember, but there was a time when you could wake up as many as three mornings in a row and not find the world had lost its fucking mind.

I mean, I think this is fine? It's written by the editor of @londonist.com, not a clueless American who's only been to London once.

Private Eye exposing again the utter idiocy of our politics. This sums up *exactly* how Farage and Reform get rocket-boosted by a media, drunk on sensationalist nonsense. Unserious and irresponsible but it’ll be up to us to prove them wrong.

Elected Democrats I'm sorry you wish none of this had happened. So do I. So do all who live to see such times. But you're going to have to do things outside the norms you're used to. Decorum is broken, decency shattered. An emergency befalls us. There are no questions left to ask. You must act.

I swear in about six months time the civility centrists are going to be both-sidesing some version of Kristallnacht.

Pretty sure these would still do if I ever have to take to the streets to fight for democracy in my country.

As a four-decade veteran of the daily journalism business, let me tell you: Every competent political reporter in this country knows that Trump is trying to establish a dictatorship. The industry's shame is that so few journalists will say so, and the ones who do lose their jobs.

Sadly, my abiding understanding that this is what the USA has always been like if you weren’t a white property-owner doesn’t really help much.
