My first manager (20yrs ago) was a bully and would call me in for meetings without indicating what they were about. Today a senior colleague asked to meet me in-person w. my manager: my anxiety hit the roof until the purpose of the meeting was clarified. Tell people what meetings are about, folks!

True, but I am hoping that the hand-sewn remnants-fabric Highway Rat costume will make it back and be re-used as dress up.

Off to bed after an evening sewing most of a Highway Rat costume for World Book Day. Here’s hoping he still wants to go to school as that on Thursday!

It must be said I didn’t have teach how to make friendship bracelets on my 2025 bingo card. Ffriends and I figured out how ourselves so writing it all down (with diagrams) 20+ years later was quite tricky.

we told everyone to learn from history and they said 'no stop doing that'

Do I know any archivists based in/near Nottingham or Derby, who could potentially show an interested 6th former around? Or host work experience/shadowing/volunteering?

Nap-trapped again. 😍🥰 So happy as I thought we’d had our last contact nap years ago. Exhausted due to school and an awful cold.

In keeping track of everything in little one’s diary, I lost sight of the fact that it’s 14 February tomorrow. Husband has just volunteered to go out for tonight’s supper…and his Valentines card. At least he’ll be sure to like it…

One of the sadder stories connected with my village but good came of it in the end…

Hi BlueSky! We're Churchill Archives Centre & we provide a home to the papers of politicians, civil servants, social scientists, campaigners, journalists, military leaders, & scientists from the Churchill era & beyond. Follow us to find out about our collections, events, projects, & more.

Having been unexpectedly asked to speak at an inter-College event on DSARs in February, I’m drafting my presentation at home while listening to The Longest Johns. Trying to avoid letting shanty/sailing references creep in.

Holding our Friends in the US in my thoughts and the Light as they try to do what they can.

It’s a day off so I got to sewing. LO is now swimming in a much cooler pool with cold changing rooms so he now has a sherpa-lined fleece blanket hoodie to stay warm under. Materials £10.

Back from Pilates: my legs are jelly and my core muscles are shaky. Extra stretches needed later and an easy day tomorrow maybe? Silly me. No. Squirrels will be building indoor dens so I’ll be scrabbling around on the floor like a loon.

Thanks to the 1,600 people and organisations who responded to the UK Ministry of Justice’s proposals on the retention of wills. Good news: The UK Government has determined not to proceed with any reforms that involve the destruction of original wills Read in full here: www.gov.uk/government/c...

Little one has Forest School for most of this morning and it’s -2°C. 🥶 He’s wearing so many layers, he’s almost waddling penguin-style. Full thermals, warm top, jogging bottoms, jumper, waterproof trousers, fleece jumper, warm coat, hat, snood, and gloves.

We took the Christmas tree out earlier today as we’re too busy tomorrow. On its way out it dropped pine needles enough to ¾ fill the kitchen bin. Just found the last few needles now while getting into bed. They really do get everywhere!!

Having mixed feelings about going back to work tomorrow. On the one hand, I don’t feel I’ve really had a break (who does when you have a child and it’s Christmas?) and on the other, I’m overstimulated and touched out so some no-child time in a quiet archive strongroom is a very welcome prospect.

My first #househistory publication, just in time for Christmas. I can’t wait to see my MiL open this.

I’ve always been sceptical or cynical about charity draws (e.g. Omaze) and wondered how much the chosen charity really benefits. I heard today that Scouts UK got £3.5m from being an Omaze charity! I’m still unlikely to buy into it myself but I am now less cynical.

At the last Squirrel session of the year, we celebrated traditions from Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Burkina Faso! We distributed 40 badges from the term, including our LO’s Chief Scout’s Acorn, the top award. Proud Mummy moment!

All three felled by a bacterial lurgy but we managed to carry on, just about. Tree up. Major exercise now as it involves removing small table & chairs and moving the Lego area. Worth it, though.

I think I should take a day’s leave once a month just so I can catch up on life/domestic/Squirrel admin. I’ve been catching up for the last 2.5hrs, have done all but 3 things on my list, and can see the bottom of my personal inbox again. Feeling a lot less stressed, too.

1 December and our 5yo has gone Christmas mad. Consequently, lights are up, advent calendar up, cake made, most cards written, and I’ve volunteered to help our Scout group do its first ever wassail on 5 January. Fire, shotgun (?), apple juice, singing, and 4-14y olds (and lots of grown ups!!).

I’ve just realised that Christmas is three working weeks away. How?! Cue a mild panic about unused TOIL/annual leave and asking relatives for pressie hints.

Today’s the day we’ve been waiting for! A year ago (+/- 2 days) we got tickets to Bellowhead’s Cambridge concert. Having missed the last local concert due to childbirth (a reasonable excuse), we are so excited to go and see them perform live tonight.

It sounds like #StormBert is attempting to lift our roof off! I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that a tile or two had shifted given the noises coming from the main roof and that of the extension. It’s been gusting up to 60mph. At least we’ve been spared the rain that’s been lashing our old home.
