If you are at a conference and feel compelled to make a comment during the QA section, consider, for just one second, don't. No one is paying to hear you speak. Keep your comments in your pocket.

Some personal news: I have resigned from Boston University as of this week. Those of you that have been following me for a while will know I have been having some health issues—I have resigned to focus on recovery. I’ve also started a newsletter (epiellie.substack.com), so please follow me there.

Everybody (me included) is getting bogged down on the details of events at NIH et al. Fatal mistake. The big picture is Musk/Trump are trying to shut down all gov-funded Medical/Disease research in the US. Have to understand that to have any hope of stopping it. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/act-now

A team of volunteer archivists has recreated the Centers for Disease Control website, called RestoredCDC.org, as it appeared the day President Trump was inaugurated. "I felt that we could restore any data sets that people might not have access to anymore because these were publicly funded data."

A little immunology story celebrating the legacy of James Harrison- something positive in amongst the gloom 🧪

Dear Canada and Mexico, We’re with you. Sincerely, Decent Americans

I think I'm going to say that we're Canadian whenever we're travelling out of the country now. Maybe sport a maple leaf sticker.

Who pays Trump's new tariffs? Spoiler alert: it's not Canada, Mexico, or China. It's YOU. https://youtu.be/AfVGUiet39E?si=UEYERynxqVk8ORMZ

What’s happening with the US government reminds me of this story (great book btw): Libertarians took over a town in NH in 2004 and gutted its services, cut taxes, etc. Less than 8 yrs later things had gotten so bad that black bears were breaking into homes and killing people for the first time ever.

She can seek refuge in Canada.

I hope America is as lucky as the delta jet - everyone survives but the right wing explodes

I love this.

#Canadians are preparing to create a retail blackout on Feb 28 of all U.S retailers doing business there. For one day, they will show them the power when provoked. Absolutely no purchases from Walmart, Home Depot, Best Buy, Amazon, McDonald’s, Staples, Gap or any other US retailers. Join them!!

New platform, same huddle, fewer bots! Here's the @intmedatiowa.bsky.social Rheumatology Fellowship Huddle for Week #34: I ❤️ Rheum youtu.be/wACnskoLPTo

A sincere thank you to American friends and colleagues who have apologised for djt’s recent aggression towards 🇨🇦. We know it does not reflect the sentiments of most of 🇺🇸, and it helps a lot to hear it.

Half of EIS, the CDC's renowned "disease detectives," gone. These folks respond to emergencies in the US and around the globe, and are now in tatters.

If you are an NIH or CDC scientist that lost your job, we have a home for you at UTHealth. I’m hiring physician scientists and we also have transplant ID fellowship slots open. Contact me. #IDSky #MedSky

If vaccines are between the individual and their healthcare provider, then why aren’t abortions?

Doing the unthinkable: The deep cuts to the #CDC's workforce today are expected to decimate the Epidemic Intelligence Service, a program that has trained public health rapid responders for decades. Envy of the world. Poof! www.statnews.com/2025/02/14/t...

What gets me about these pauses in funding is that they are not something that can simply be reversed by the courts and everything goes back to normal right away. If I stop watering my houseplants, they will die within weeks. It won’t help if I start watering a dead plant again a month later.

Great articles on this special issue…highly informative! 👍

Amazing!!! From @deadder.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/deadder/...

Time for Americans to take back their govt.

"To condone policies that the profession knows will compromise health—or to remain silent and look away—is to be complicit in putting population health at risk" To every university, every public hospital, every academic society: SILENCE IS NOT AN OPTION. #medsky

In a small piece of bright news: exciting news today for everyone who wishes there were a non-addictive, effective way to treat pain. The first in a new class of medications was approved by the FDA 🛟🩺🧪 (Nb: The RCTs for approval focused on acute, not chronic, pain.) www.nytimes.com/2025/01/30/h...

I don’t know who needs to know this but mifepristone has a 4-5 year shelf life As someone with teenage daughters, I plan on keeping an emergency supply for the worst-case scenario Do with this information what you will

The #NIH diversity supplement grants were created to promote diversity in health-related research. They just abruptly changed the expiration date to today. #medsky #academicmedicine #academicsky 😢😖😠

I feel like people should be more aware that documentation in their “medical record,” no matter how new or expensive an EMR or how hard their clinician tries, has been designed for insurance billing instead of for a legible record of a person’s medical needs, and how often that impedes patient care

This is what the Trump Campaign and the GOP spent hundreds of millions on scaring people over.

It is beyond infuriating that articles that come from government funded research, for example the WHI, are behind a paywall. I already paid through my taxes.

@chroniceileen.bsky.social Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with the UBC #PhysicalTherapy class today. Your insights on "what people with #RheumatoidArthritis want from their PTs" are invaluable! @codieprimeau.bsky.social @arthritis-ubc.bsky.social

Ann Telnaes resigned after the Washington Post editorial page killed her cartoon. It’s worth a share. Big Tech executives are bending the knee to Donald Trump and it’s no surprise why: Billionaires like Jeff Bezos like paying a lower tax rate than a public school teacher.
