Not saying it's going to be nice or not utter chaos as it happens, but the sooner mankind loses it's strange hold on the planet, the better. How much of our current issues are due to the conceited belief that we are "masters" of nature instead of recognising we are part of it. It's naive arrogance

And just fits the clichéd saying of "they want you fighting your culture wars so you don't unite and fight a class war instead". I generally am suspicious of mastermind agendas or well organised plots, but definitely seems believable that having the populace distracted and divided is useful

Oh how amazing it would be if they were right and it was all nothing but a ploy by corrupt elites to cause fear and take more control over our societies I seriously wish they were correct.

So much for the party of free speech.

Now mainly focused on small nature friendly things I can do, but definitely not perfect. Can't blame ourselves at all for being imperfect beings.

Oh definitely, but also sapped a lot of the motivation and willpower I had to "rejoin" society as a new person. Been able to appreciate seeing us a marvelous but unfortunately misguided species far too caught up in what we could do than question the actual costs though, like a true alien onlooker.

Well it depends. Only really became a "doomer" while rebuilding my sense of self after a late in life diagnosis of autism that helped me finally accept myself and stop a long lifetime trend of depression, anxiety and self hatred focused onwards. Now it's a lot of anxiety focused out words instead 🤣

Absolutely beautiful creatures and hate how so many tend to see them as nothing but vermin. If anything is vermin, we are for causing them and everything else so much harm simply because of our conceit and detachment from nature.

I've scared the foxes living near me in Kilkenny a few times, not due intentionally but simply them not spotting me. Once last year and once this year just as I was laying under a tree in a hedge as it skooted past prowling it's territory, and another at night while listening to owls

Thanks for such a great vid, and so important to keep doing what we can for damage mitigation and prepare for a world that even under the best case scenario, is going to be drastically different. Need to do our best it's as equitable and just as possible, not a dystopian hellscape.

Not just ocean temps either. Had a lovely nature walk yesterday evening with the Irish wildlife trust in Dunhill, and part of it was taking water quality readings in a stream and a pond. Even aside from the large algae blooms, there was very little life in it, likely due to the excess heat.

And currently listening to @racheldonald.bsky.social newest episode of planet critical, and definitely brought in some important themes. Those high placed in society aren't under much direct risk of the #ClimateCrisis so far more important to them to strengthen their positions than deal with it.

And all perceived as great as it's good for that all important "economy" that's become more important than human life, nevermind the myriad of other life we share this ancient planet with.

If only one of the more animist ideologies that didn't have this conceited detachment and hostility toward the natural world the western narrative has was the one that grew to prominence in the last few centuries. Sure many of us wouldn't be here and we would likely not have smartphones but so what?

Especially how it's convinced so many of us humans born from this ancient planet that this wondrous home and the only place we know for sure that supports life is all for us is mere commodities to own, resources to extract, and natural "resources" to utilise, regardless of what else was using it

It's going to be a bit scary wondering how people will react if it comes to pass that we really have reached the limits of a normality that so many of us simply took for granted. Hopefully many will be great at coming together in that situation.

Unfortunately with how dreadful our short sighted self serving politicians are at tackling this issue or others related to inequality, it's only to be expected people will flock to more reactionary groups. It horrifies me to think that we may be witnessing the very destructive downfall of humanity.

Those that keep asserting that "the models are man-made and wrong" have a point, but not in a good way and not the way they think. Very hard to simulate and predict what's happening to this ancient planet in such a short time, and that's to our detriment.

Definitely shows where we have our priorities unfortunately.

In some ways, I'm jealous of those that go around in blissful ignorance, but on the other hand, deep awareness of what's happening even if we wish we could look away is the only honest approach, and it needs to be realised.

I just hope that whatever happens and whether or not our species can come together to actually deal with this properly, millions of years down this beautiful ancient planet will be flourishing with life, even if much of it is unimaginable new creatures filling the many niches left empty.

Definitely. Fortunately found a nice job working on a small scale organic farm attached to a community centre and community allotments. Money isn't great in comparison to other kinds of work, but it's very satisfying work. It's about trying to cherish what we have, and save what we can.

It's becoming quite apparent that if they can't make money off it, they deem it as an enemy

Still is a struggle for sure to stop focusing on what's happening outside of our control and instead just admire the sheer unlikely spectacle of our own existence and what we can be aware of, but have to keep trying.

If only everything else didn't have to suffer so much due to us having far too high an impact on the world

And of course many folk were very aware already for a long time, but just mean it's become so much more obvious across the world.

And it's been a wake up call to so many of us that our political classes oftentimes prioritise short term economic interests over actually having a spine and speaking out against utter devastation and evil. Sure in Ireland we've made some noise, and our population can empathise, but it's not enough

If only that utterly fantasy world that's believed in as if it's some sort of religion and focused on primarily by a tiny minority of the global populace that love to gamble didn't have such major impacts in the real world and real society that has existed for thousands of years before it.

Anyone that's seen as in anyway against the techbros and American oligarchy strengthening themselves at the expense of everyone else is painted as a threat to "freedom" in order to manipulate brainwashed morons that can't see how manipulated they are.

I do suspect that many industries will boom through it, not by dealing with the problems but simply reacting to new more hostile conditions and instability. Arms industry is likely another one that'll see a lot of growth, and in no way am I saying this will be good.
comment in response to post
I really worry it won't, especially with how high tech surveillance and ai military technologies Israel develops may be seen as so important for the political class as things throughout the world destabilise. If only we as a species weren't so divided by ideology, imagined borders and hierarchy.

And sometimes it's hard to figure out who's a bigger threat to us: politicians who are ignorant of climate change and don't believe it can happen, or powerful folk that do know it's a major existential threat, but their response is to try speed it up thinking they can simply escape to bunkers/Mars.

And going to be hard to adapt if it goes increasingly warmer year on year up to a point in a few decades where there's the possibility of an AMOC shutdown. Very hard to judge what the future may bring with so much complexity, different moving parts, and world leaders that don't have a clue

If only we humans could stop seeing these so many different things simply as "resources" of monetary value. Go back a century and the same argument could have been made to defend whaling because there were still whales.
comment in response to post
Agreed. At this point, it's more like a big green washing event for the political systems to pretend they can be trusted to deal with it, while pushing more unlimited economic growth. Can't forget the backroom deals for fossil fuel use either.

And many other ways of life and behaviours never seen before, going from frugal and careful to hyper consumer based in living memory, and any talk about how completely abnormal this is is often greeted with disdain, because it like frequent flying is just seen as "perfectly normal".

34 here and from Ireland, which was poor for most of history (especially under British rule) but with an economic boom in the mid 90s that shot us ahead, the culture of hand me down clothes being passed around the extended family and friends is gone, to be replaced by mass produced fast fashion
