The big photo is cherry trees at the MLK Memorial. The small one is a duck at the FDR Memorial.

Thank goodness. These are people already living here, who may have been here for some time, under completely legal circumstances. He tried to strip all that away.

Need to do both, though. Early voting in primaries for Virginia's fall 2025 elections (governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, all 100 seats in the Virginia House) starts May 2, in less than 3 weeks. Elections keep on coming (I hope), so we have to fight to win them, too. Like Wisconsin.

All coverage on this on CNN and other channels should make clear CBS can report whatever they want. They do not have to be pro-Trump, anti-Trump, or neutral. There's no need to go into court and "prove" they are fair, objective, or 50-50 on Trump. That's the First Amendment. It's up to them.

That’s the extreme upper limit in his initial broad estimate before any primary outcomes, without knowledge of economy as of this fall, etc. His extreme lower limit has Republicans in control of the Virginia House at 51R and 49D. Most likely results presumably are somewhere in between.

When economists look at our exports (or I guess, any country's exports), they count both goods and services. Our universities provide a huge volume of services (ie education, degrees) to the world at large. This is like taking a physical product like car exports and piling them up in a bonfire.

True, but I think this was meant for those of who are opposed him. Authoritarians try to promote an image of total power and "always winning" that can lead to fear and apathy. So it's good to notice whenever they fail, sometimes in a big way, to stay aware that they don't always win.

His point, I think, is that would-be dictators want to make us feel powerless and as though they always win, even though that is not true. So when they fall flat on their face and have to back down, it is important to take note of it and not fall for their spin. Trump totally screwed up.

Thanks for explaining that. I’ll delete my post.

If only they had any role in this. It’s reconciliation, no Dem votes needed. 50 percent not 60 percent in Senate.

Baloney. Many Dem congressional reps in the streets as well. Sounds like you are busy moving the goalposts. They are fighting hard. But until we win the House they can’t take action via Congress.

It was 88 degrees one day, and everyone in the neighborhood was suddenly outdoors catching up on projects and breathing fresh air. The next day it got down to the 40s, but spring is on the way.

It's bad.

Additionally, maybe Elon Musk's "defeat" (he wasn't actually on the ballot) in Wisconsin, and polling showing he is not well-liked, may have motivated some people into leaving there and coming here. Or perhaps encouraged those who aren't online much and just hadn't gotten around to it before.

Also: "over a hundred communications" efforts means efforts to communicate with specific groups. One doing outreach to people trying to quit smoking is different from one reaching out to pregnant teenagers or one aimed at seniors with disabilities. That's not duplication or overlap.

I'm so sorry that you were put into this situation. The Washington Post before the fall of 2024 was a truly wonderful newspaper that I read and enjoyed for decades. Sympathy for all that's happened and congratulations and best wishes for what's to come.

So just to back up for a moment, whether or not Chase makes it -- this means Virginia is going to have its first female governor.

Winsome Sears is already set -- question today (as it's the deadline) was whether there would be any GOP opponents. If Chase made it, there will be a GOP primary.

trans people deserve healthcare. full stop. trans care is essential & lifesaving. full stop. trans care requires more than just trans folks standing for the right to access it. you can be brief, but be specific. this isn't a "spam the form" sitch. a comment can be anonymous if you need that.🧵

Widely praised response, bringing in the industry, regulators, others. Transportation reporters were talking on-air about this effort by Buttigieg's DOT and all that had been done after Trump's unhinged comments when there was a Potomac River crash on Trump's watch.

Average the polls, always. But the question was how much Dems would overperform their 30 point loss in this district from 2024 (ie, Trump won it by 30). From what @ Taniel is saying, the Dems did extremely well. That's what suggests how well Dems will do this fall (in NJ and VA) and next fall.

Schumer is the elected leader of the Senate Dems and was one of the first fellow Senators to pose a question to give Booker a respite -- yesterday. Along with the other NJ Senator, Andy Kim. Booker is fourth in line in the Senate leadership. This was completely appropriate.

I understand his point, but honestly I don't think being transgender is an illness or an epidemic. It's just what some fellow Americans, neighbors, friends, and coworkers happen to be. Nothing more or less than that, and not very dramatic, either.

He's also helping to rev up New Jersey voters for their big statewide elections this year, in 2025, alongside Virginia. Great speech. Loved it that fellow New Jersey Senator Andy Kim was among the first to offer him a respite with a question.

It's an amendment to the Constitution and has the full power of the Constitution. That's how amendments work. When you ask "which amendment" I'm referring to the specific amendment enacted after FDR served four terms that prohibits any future president from serving more than two terms.

Also of course blaming Biden for any US hostage held overseas during his presidency who he was not able to get returned -- and ignoring all those hostages that he did get returned. Apparently if the cause of the hostage taking is the Trump administration itself, no further action can be taken.
