Thrilled to share that my new book „Cultural Data Science: An Introduction to R“ is out in print, too! A practical guide to data + code in the humanities. With a foreword by Lev Manovich, published by Springer Nature. link.springer.com/book/10.1007... #CulturalDataScience #DigitalHumanities #RStats

Apple’s on-device foundation model is primarily a language model. It is text-only, not inherently multimodal in the way that it can natively process images or audio alongside text. Proofread ok.

Apple itself describes the limits very clearly: Hallucinations of facts Hallucination is when the model makes up information it doesn't know Avoid where facts are critical Provide verified knowledge sources Thoroughly fact check model outputs developer.apple.com/videos/play/... #AI #GenerativeAI

Here’s a snapshot of all my followers, showing how many followers they have vs. how many they follow. Note the logarithmic scale! The size of each point represents post count, and transparency indicates account age. #rstats #Bluesky #SocialMedia #DataScience @katestarbird.bsky.social

Hello to all my followers, thanks for your follow! Did you know that profile pictures on Bluesky are 1000x1000 pixels? (Twitter used to be 400x400!) #Bluesky #ProfilePictures #DigitalCommunity #SocialMedia #FunFact

Sure! I’m doing it in R using the {bskyr} package to access follower bios and {wordcloud2} to generate the visualization. Right now it’s still in a “try and see” phase, but I might share the code on GitHub later once it’s a bit more polished.

Just gave a talk at the University of Oregon on my book. Thanks to everyone attending for the thoughtful questions! We discussed: – Bias in cultural datasets and the importance of critical reflection – Why learning to code (R or Python) still matters—even in the age of AI #DigitalHumanities #RStats
