To those interested in harvesting japanese knotweed. Great care must be taken to prevent the spread of this plant! A tiny bit of this invasive species can take over. This plant is bamboo on steroids. Collect materials carefully, make sure all materials that aren’t eaten are cooked to death!

I once got to visit my friends off grid cabin which had an extra extra long outdoor bathtub with a view of the woods. I didn’t want to leave.

Ugh, I used to be a cashier and I was stuck there with them. Worst part of the job, grumpy old people didn’t even come close. Nasty men who would say perverse things to me while I was stuck there checking out their stuff were thee worst.

The heat from my tumblers motor is now heating the greenhouse! Definitely only works with a smaller set up. Before, I had the tumbler on the ground nearby with a clear plastic storage bin upside down over it to keep it dry, and the motor heat built up under the bin kept it warm through the freeze.

It’s apparently a decentralized group of individuals. Here is a link to the subreddit: www.reddit.com/r/50501/s/fq...
They have more statements there about the organization.

Some plants can be started indoors early like tomatoes, peppers, basils, but timing is kind of key. A lot of us gardeners are guilty of jumping the gun. 🫣 Also if you plan to can, buy supplies before late summer, stock can get barren in the shelves and online in the late season.

You can start now! It’s definitely helpful to find information from local groups/nurseries because they have the scoop on soil conditions, weather patterns and pests. It’s research time of year, find local grow calendar recommendations, pick what you want to grow, anticipate local diseases/pests.

I’ve also found reddit subs for gardening and canning useful to searching for specific resources.

Where exactly are you located-ish? I’m portland based and our local nursery has created an amazing grow calendar for the year which is helpful. If you have a local nursery and they blog they might have a treasure trove of local grow information.

Use your old meta socials for resistance. Teach people how to leave the networks. Share tutorials, encouragement and tips.

Be patient, some friends and family will have reasons that make it slower, business connections, other friends who aren’t ready etc. This is hard for people. Seeing the snowball roll down hill will hopefully encourage more people to get their socials in order though.

Help older or more tech challenged friends and family crossover to new platforms. Leave detailed instruction posts and offer to help them make the move. Times like this are overwhelming as it is.

Leave messenger apps accessible for a while so that friends can ask for other socials, email, phone etc.

Encourage friends to PIN 📌 a post to the top of their profiles that link people to their new social profiles on bsky and similar. That way when their friends come to their profiles wondering where they have gone, there is a map to follow.
