Two points: 1. I think most people pre-streaming were cinema-illiterate and we just had a common touchstone of popular movies of the recent past that made it seem otherwise. 2. The enemy isn’t streaming, the enemy is choice. No one is made to watch what’s on anymore. There’s no going back.

The MASN dispute is a good lesson in "never make a long-term deal with someone bigger than you". The O's deal was for Nats rights forever. After a decade or so MLB worked as hard as they could to break the deal. Only the fact "Angelos" is basically "litigation" kept it in check as long as it was.
