I feel the same way about the first time I saw fireflies —ordinary for some, but to me it was magical.

Right with you. I’ve got vodka, bourbon, rum, and tequila infusions going. I put them on the highest shelf in my cupboard and am doing my best to ignore them.

Anyway, I think that’s how we get to the perversion that virtue=wealth. It rings true to people, but it’s only part of the equation. The truer equation is that virtue = shared wealth.

But so many interpretations seem to focus on an individual responsibility to acquire as much as possible and any one who doesn’t have is to blame because if you can get it yourself than why can’t they, totally ignoring the fact that it’s given to you for the purpose of SHARING.

I just don’t think “give and you shall receive” was intended as a message about acquisition. Right?

I think the awareness of potential abundance in life is important and powerful. And if you aren’t convinced, do a search for “planting kitchen scraps” on your favorite search engine. But I think what’s missing is that abundance is not for personal hoarding. It’s for sharing.

I’m feeling a chicken/egg vibe—are we losing the concepts and therefore changing the words, or is the manipulation of the words eroding the concepts? I’m pretty sure the next word/concept to go is “society.” Or is that already on its way out? I feel like I’m always a step behind.

When I was young, my mom bought me books by Alvin Freed about transactional analysis. The thing I remember most about them is the principle that any attention, good or bad, feels better than no attention. People will seek any interaction, no matter how negative, over being ignored.

Shasta County in California. I think it would be very eye opening for people who think of CA as a blue state.

I hear you sincerely—the frustration is mutual and real. But I don’t want to be like them. I don’t want their values (or lack thereof) to triumph. I agree that doesn’t mean bending over for them, but I also don’t want to emulate them.

That would be a gorgeous palette. I splurged and bought the quinacridone set and some primaries, and I have the full dot card, which I’m stretching as far as it can go.
