The Berlin Administrative Court has ruled that O’Brien can stay in Germany until his appeal against the expulsion has been decided. (Berlin had wanted to expel him in the interim and let him appeal from abroad.) The other 3 activists filed similar motions - no decision yet for them. @lrb.co.uk

Kasia Wlaszczyk, a Polish citizen who is one of the 4 Berlin activists set to be deported for pro-Palestine activism, has written about his case for the Guardian.

"I could not be more proud of you, Mahmoud. You embody everything I ever hoped for in a partner and the father of my children. I eagerly await the day when I can tell our son the stories of his father’s bravery."

Reporters Without Borders, Germany report: Especially after October 7, 2023, RSF received reports from several editorial offices about a severely narrowed range of opinions regarding Israel and Palestine. 1/4

“Es gibt kein Wir und gäb kein Massengrab im Mittelmeer, Wenn die Körper in den Fischernetzen weiße Christen wär'n.”

In case you missed it last week - I wrote a longish piece about the planned deportation of activists from Germany, which you might have heard about online.

I think people reeeeealllly overestimate the role of trade and industrial policy in US dominance of heavy industry in the 1950s and really underestimate the importance of having dropped high explosives on every facility in Japan or Germany capable of manufacturing a ball bearing

‘The demand is that to be safe from persecution, you must pluck out your eyes. Instead of ejecting Gaza from domestic politics, Israel’s allies have brought the war home.’ This week’s column www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I have not seen such a blatant anti-immigrant statement based on falsehoods, pitting people against people, in some time. Statement made by Keir Starmer at today’s immigration summit.

‘The drastic reduction of the threshold of threat could also lead to increased deportations of European citizens with convictions for minor crimes unrelated to activism.’ @harrystopes.bsky.social on Germany’s attempts to deport four pro-Palestine activists: www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/ap...

maybe we shouldn't be disappearing students via secret police for opposing the actions of a state that behaves in this way

"It is in the considerable societal and state interest that no doubt arise that opposing tendencies are even tolerated in the federal territory." I wrote about the the (il)legal thinking behind the deportations of pro-Palestine activists from Berlin previously reported by @hahauenstein.bsky.social

‘They’re using it now against the white people,’ O’Brien told me; ‘the Arab and Muslim communities have been getting it ten times worse.’ I wrote about the four Berlin activists set to be deported for Palestine activism, and Germany's descent into lawlessness in the name of its Staatsräson.

Elon’s estranged daughter has re-entered the chat

David Frum, it should be clear, has zero problem with the complete obliteration of every educational, cultural, and historical institution in Gaza, and the murder, bombing, or displacement of literally every student, teacher, academic, and cultural worker. But protesting these things *is* a problem.

what Menschenrechtsarbeit? That's the point

A popular comment underneath a Zeit article on Greta Thunberg speaking at a Palestine protest in Mannheim. Mainstream German media and politics need to take a long hard look at themselves and ask who radicalised this bloodthirsty racist extremist.

From the thread on hooliganism in the 1980s/90s on Man City fans forum.

Quibbling here, and I don't support the Obs sale - but "billionaire owner" is a misleading way to describe the non-profit trust that owns the Guardian and Observer.

pretty weird to use the word "vertrieben" ('expelled') to describe the departure of settlers from illegal occupied territory, IMO

This was so much fun to do! Interesting conversation (IMO) about how and why I became a City fan and what it has meant to me.

That rule I put in the constitution and that has wreaked devastation? It’s “still right and proper”. But do tweak it a little. Should be fine. Let’s not think too hard about it. Let alone assume responsibility for a catastrophic error, haha no. on.ft.com/49oaXE5
