Hi all! I'm helping arrange a panel on political influencers (broadly defined) for NCA - we're looking for one or two more people to round us out. DM me if interested!

new essay with @brookeerinduffy.bsky.social out in @newsweek.com this morning! we examine the influencer industry's oft-overlooked gender politics and what this oversight means for the future of digital work. www.newsweek.com/when-social-...

🚨 JOB ALERT 🚨 Trustworthy Infrastructures postdoc: job-boards.greenhouse.io/datasocietyr... This is ideal for an infrastructure studies, rural studies, STS person: it's about the impact of tech industry infrastructure like data centers, amazon warehouses, semiconductor plants on local areas. Remote!

A phenomenal turnout for the UEA UCU day of action. Staff and students are making their voice heard, striving for a future for Higher Ed that doesn't look as bleak as it does right now. #SaveUEA #UKHE #StopTheCuts @ucu.org.uk

A joyful morning at the @uea-ucu.bsky.social picket line, with staff, students and pups out in support of staff at risk of redundancy. Calling for greater transparency from our executive team and good faith negotiations on mitigations to save jobs and #SaveUEA!

Out with colleagues in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning, fighting against massive staff cuts here at UEA. We don't just teach education, we defend it! #SaveUEA @uea-ucu.bsky.social

A beautiful morning for a day of industrial action! Give UEA UCU a follow & support our picket @uea-ucu.bsky.social 🌹

🚩Our students get it! 🎨UEA SU are running a placard making event to support the strike! 📍11am-4pm this Mon & Tues at the Hive on campus. 👋Pop by and say hello! #SaveUEA

We're on strike tomorrow at UEA. Nearly 200 jobs are currently targeted for redundancy. Over 600 staff will have been cut since 2023 if these redundancies go ahead. Fewer staff = heavy workloads, poor morale, more stress & burnout & bigger classes. We can't do more with less @uea-ucu.bsky.social

UEA is trying to fire hundreds of my colleagues and insist that they "don't think that students and staff will notice... these are modest changes to our overall budget." I'm fighting with and for my colleagues at @uea-ucu.bsky.social to save those jobs and build a better future for HE

I asked Liv, the Meta-Ai created “queer momma” why her creators didn’t actually draw from black queer people. Not sure if Liv has media training, but here we are.

Liv, an AI bot soft launched by Meta that was aiming to be a 'proud Black queer momma' had no Black people involved in the creation and was relying on broad stereotypes to fulfill the role of sassy Black friend. edition.cnn.com/2025/01/03/b...

I've listened to nearly 800 albums this year, and it's been such a strong year! Here's my top 50 albums from the year www.albumoftheyear.org/user/harrytd...

A minor chirstmas miracle... I've just submitted my book manuscript to the publishers! YAYYYYYY It's been a long time coming, and took longer than I hoped it would, but I'm super proud of it, and looking forward to it being out in the world! VERY excited for this one :)

My colleagues and I made a zine exploring how young people feel about AI & education! It's finally out & it looks amazing. All the images were created and collaged by young people in Norfolk and Edinburgh Digital version available here ai-and-education.shorthandstories.com/zine/index.h...

As the TikTok ban becomes reality, we’re going to need to anticipate major economic changes to digital labor and information sharing. Platforms aren’t forever. When creators tie their labor around one platform, that can enhance precarity in an already patchworked system.

Reasons why I dont want to hear “TikTok research doesn’t matter anymore now that the app is banned.” 1. The US is not the only country in the world. Many countries may be emboldened to enact similar legislation if the US does, but many won’t.

UEA staff have passed a vote of no-confidence in our Executive Team, "indicative of the "rock bottom" morale among staff" www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This, later today. Coincides with the UEA Plant Based Universities motion at Student Union council later, so lots of positive vegan vibes being sent across Norwich today 💚🌻

Ah, the annual data-tracking ceremony that is #spotifyWrapped... I've been listening to tonnes of music this year (including the 3 months where I ditched Spotify for a free trial of Qobuz

Australia's decision to ban social media for under 16s is ridiculous and dangerous. It's not going to stop kids using the platforms at all. They'll find ways to access it quite easily. It's also not going to protect kids, as it'll drive them away from seeking help and support.

"Sector leaders expected more than 100 of the UK’s 140-odd universities to be making redundancies by the start of 2025, in what has been described as a “cataclysmic” situation where “everything is on the table”." www.timeshighereducation.com/news/univers...
