The radfem-tradwife overlap is very real

Well done, everyone involved

Wellness is framed as an individual effort, something you purchase and arrange for yourself. Rather than public health efforts and UBI and health care.

Pacing yourself is always the hardest!

I go back and forth between closeted trans femme and massively overcompensating trans masc, but there's definitely Gender happening there.

I always think about when my mother had breast cancer and the docs asked my father about partial v total mastectomy.

Once had a doc put me on an ssri painkiller when she'd already put me on an ssri anti depressant. Which is the kinda combo that causes Seizures. Only caught it because I looked up the med online before taking it. Been 15 years and I'm still kinda mad about that one.

It must be nice to have so much faith in institutions.

To be fair this was a flat earther and I'm not sure if the flat earther people and the "nazis are secretly living in a hole in Antarctica" people overlap
comment in response to post
"Man, it's weird this podcast ep talks about a guy wanting to fly to Antarctica to find a secret hole to the other side of the planet doesn't mention that Secret Antarctica Hole is sometimes full of nazis. (A moment passes) ....hm."

Never did find a respectable place to put his spinnerets.

In the original draft he was older, but i have since retooled it so he was a teen and the story would be about his Escape From the Lab.

He was a spider chimera who now lived with a colony of the species that made up the spider portion of his DNA.

I always think of the response "people who go to the right because people on the left annoy them are weak. I'm on the left and people on the left annoy me every day."

I am also always surprised he's not dead yet

My brain will mix up the two when thinking of you. Occasionally "rosygurl" shows up.

Don't need to take care of my hair if I shave it all off

Totally valid. (I have been feeling a lot of "no i have to Prove that I'm still useful" lately, so)
comment in response to post
(I'm very sensitive to any "no it's okay disabled people can still be useful" talk, even if the larger point is accurate)
comment in response to post
I'd push back a bit at the idea that we *need* to be useful, but besides that yes. I once heard a botanist comment on their studying "there's no way this stuff was figured out by someone who looks at plants a normal amount."

I've also heard it argued it has to do with how overworked and exhausted kids are

Anchovies are fine! But they are not one of the generally agreed upon ingredients of an apple pie. and if you stick some in as an attempt to Redefine The Boundaries Of Pie, well, people might consider you Kind of A Jerk. They came here for Apple Pie, thank you.
comment in response to post
It's like food labeling. If you sell something labeled an Apple Pie, people will reasonably expect there to be pie filling and apple pieces and probably a pie crust. If they cut it open and find anchovies, they're going to rightfully have some Objections.

Baby queer me would have done something Permanent if I hadn't found other queer people online

Also puts disabled people at risk of exploitation by the people offering care. Trapped in abusive situations because we need support that we can't get anywhere else
comment in response to post
Yeah, ngl, when I was a baby conservative (years ago) one of the first cracks in the illusion was the question "why do we only support our troops when they're out killing and then abandon them when they get back"

Yup! It's the local chunk of the Rockies. (Admittedly the lab is probably a lot more famous 😁)

I think that's something that separates good Westerns from bad. That technical skill of making the environment *matter*.
comment in response to post
In this book the environment matters. The environment is something to navigate and survive as much as the other people. The primary conflict may be Human v Human, but Human v Nature is never far behind.
