I too have had my lack of "sufficient" deference received as disrespect.

Wondering what the disruption in DC means for the higher ed math community? TPSE has you covered. Join us for a webinar, Friday, 2/28 at 3pm ET. Register here: usmd-edu.zoom.us/webinar/regi...

Hill visit day! Talking to reps and senators about NSF and math education. W/ @dtkung.bsky.social #goodtrouble

"What is the purpose of your visit?" I just need to escape the US for a while "Welcome to Canada"

Eating all the fresh produce I can in LA before heading back to Canada

Harvey Mudd and my colleagues there came up so many times during this MAA Golden sectional meeting (collaborators, recommenders, wonderful times in people's professional lives). I didn't appreciate how influential my little department is, especially in CA.

Next talk "What the Pfaff" - Jenny Quinn, joint work with Naiomi Cameron.

At the Golden Section of the MAA tomorrow in Santa Clara @ Mission College. If you're around, say hi!

Have I suddenly developed ... a fear of flying?

Got the (tentative) all clear from my chair to develop an undergrad course in category theory - inspired by an Iyengar grad class I sat in on at the University of Utah last Fall. These must exist already right? Any good materials out there? Should/Can this be co-taught with a computer scientist?

trying to derive a category

You can't fake influence - Kendrick Congrats to Howard University!

A federal employee friend is in an office that just fired all its probationary workers (everyone hired in the last year). Those that remain are desperately trying to unionize. Don't get caught flat footed.

Definitely using this

Linear algebra people! I have a lot of honors students in my linear algebra class this semester, and I'm looking for nice articles at the Monthly/Mathematics Magazine level to work through with them. Suggestions? They're in a wide variety of majors, and I'd say Calc III is the max common background.

Today's reading: "In any symmetric monoidal category if x is rigid (or dualizable) there is an evaluation map ..."

I wish there was a way to quantify the collective amount of work lost due to stress and despair over the last few weeks, independent of barriers to funding.

After you've developed a course and have a set of course notes, do you make them public? 🧮

If any country wants to do a little *brain drain*, now's the perfect time.

I've expanded past my thesis work but trace ideals seem to be popular now. At Utah last Fall, so many folks wanted to talk about them. So now I've adopted 4 postdocs who want to do trace ideal stuff (not counting the older collaborators). Is this a sign to triple down? #MidCareer #SabbaticalThoughts

I met Hammonds in the Fall. What an extraordinary young mathematician. Our profession is looking at a time of uncertainty and upheaval. Do we have the organization, resources and wherewithall to catch our rising stars if they fall? Do you know somewhere/someone who would be a great fit for them?

Welcome to the Fields Institute.

I'm involved in a new project and was told to "curate my online presence." But what if I don't want to be found 😂? Finally googled myself, was alarmed, called up Williams College and had them take down my old website. New website on the way I guess.

...Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity.

I hope the programming for the semester in commutative algebra is still fully funded. But here I am in Canada at the Fields Institute.

Breaking News: The Palisades and Eaton fires in Los Angeles County, two of the deadliest fires in California history, have reached 100% containment.

From SLMath re summer programming.

Seems like everyone received their "MESSAGE to the NSF PI Community" email at different times, obscuring whether it was meant for before or after the court ordered stay of the funding freeze. I got mine at 6:45pm PST yesterday.

Hmmm.

I’m an NSF panel reviewer that was scheduled to meet today. Just got notice that all NSF panels were canceled today. I reviewed some innovative proposals in support of students. Devastating if these scholars don’t get to do this work. For the love of science & students I hope this is just a delay.💔
