Interesting. That seems fair to say with socialism narrowly defined strictly as an economic system. I think the original poster’s point was that socialism as an economic philosophy present even in our democracy, and that we should not leave everything up to free market capitalism.

Taxes pay for the fire dept. Some would argue that that is a form of socialism, “democratic socialism,” in which the public owns the means of production, the product being fire fighting. Or in the case of roads and bridges, the taxpayers own the means of production of roads and bridges, don’t they?
