Okay, folks. We only need to get 23 more backers and we have 3 days to go. Absolutely doable, but we could use a lil' help getting the word out. Check us out if the below sounds like your jam and if it's not, totally cool! Boosts are hella appreciated. 💜 #ttrpg #ZiMo

Happy Friday, y'all! 💚 This is your semi-regular reminder that if you've bought someone's game or grabbed a community copy, take a few moments to leave a review or comment for the creator. It will undoubtedly make their day!

Severance 🎈

I find it heartwrenching that so many indie TTRPG makers assume their games won't get played—which then turns into a self-fulfilled prophecy as they invest less time and effort on said games. The fault is not on players; we lived in a progressively atomised society where time together is... 1/4

Just read Rosewood Abbey and now I want to run it real bad

Just finished the script on a video essay dealing with madness in Unknown Armies. Turns out I care a lot about it! So look forward to a video really dissecting what it means to include madness in a game.

Tabletop friends, a reminder that your medieval town maps are never weird enough.

Getting a rating for one of my games literally makes my day, every single time

Mum Chums, my slice of life #ttRPG about the people who care for kids, is now live on Kickstarter. If you like your gaming with a strong emotional core, back it today!

So uhh Is there nowhere I can buy a pdf of Call of Cthulhu (RPG) first edition?

I'm considering making a video essay series on madness in ttrpgs, and I have a bunch of games to look at, but I was wondering if there were any I've missed - I'm particularly interested in any pre-Call of Cthulhu examples, if they exist. So, anyone know of some interesting madness in games?

I'm so glad that Fastaval is a non-profit proposition, with a guaranteed minimum audience. Lets me try out some weird stuff. I think fundamentally all cultural products should be free, and a guaranteed income should be universal, so that culture could be freely produced.

My #TTRPG GMing tip for the day: If you don't want to do funny voices for GMCs, don't. Just don't sweat it. You can create a memorable presentation and communicate personality with only cadence, tone, and word choice.

"I can't afford to buy an indie #ttrpg, so I can't play them!" This is your reminder that almost every single indie designer i know will just send you a copy if you email them and say "hey, I can't afford your game right now but i want to check it out!"

I just put the final touches on my next Fastaval scenario - still a while before the deadline, so subject to small changes. Nevertheless, it is a complete game about utopian mad anarchism set in the ancient world, oh, and also it's a Dread hack. Check it out, it's free! rakatung.itch.io/republic

if you’re a person who enjoys art but doesn’t create it you have no idea how many of your faves are in their artist group chats talking about how much more they’d be able to create if we had universal basic income

Hey, everybody! If you need some cool black and white artwork for your game, I'm available for commissios! If you don't need anything right now, tell your friends! People say (my family) that I am a great professional :)

So, I've decided to join a political party, the most left-wing in the Danish parliament. I figured I'd put my money where my mouth is and actually work for a socialist future, instead of limiting my political engagement to just voting.

Mountain Witch: Trust, Fate and Betrayal on Kickstarter

2024 was such a weird year for me. Had a major breakdown right at the start of the year, and I've spent most of my time recovering. That being said, I've also done some cool things - was a judge at Fastaval, made progress on a couple of my projects, and basically finished my next scenario Republic

You are a game designer. You have so many ideas, and so few of them are published. Perhaps none of them are. Your WIP folder is full of genius, and you know it, but you cannot bring yourself to release it in an imperfect state. This is for you. Presenting THE 1E MANIFESTO.

On this week's newsletter, the best of the newsletter from 2024! December is retrospective month and there's some nice writing to look back on! ttrpg.in/2024/12/08/b...

Working on my pitch/description of my scenario, having some issues. How do I explain anarchism? How do I explain what madness is? How do I do this in 1000 characters or less? Thankfully I still have a week or so to figure this out

All this story stuff is just nitpicking definitions. It's so boring to me.

Playtesting is done, and it went really well. Still need to find a way to explain how madness works - just because a voice tells you something, doesn't mean that's suddenly what you think!

Sat my ass down and rewrote what had to be rewritten, and now I'm both excited and terribly frightened of the playtest I have scheduled saturday

Godtomb Monk. The blue circle on his head is called a “Universal Disc” and represents both the Desert and its higher, inverted form, the Sky. His hands and face are stained with godflesh dye.

Kinda bummed that we only have second-hand commentaries of Zeno's Republic, but not the work itself. It would be an excellent source of inspiration for the game I'm working on!

Neurons are firing after an incredibly giving writer's weekend. I'm rethinking a whole lot of things for my Fastaval scenario, but I'm convinced the scenario will be a lot better if I dig in and take some chances. Testing this saturday, it's going to be wild!

Heading off to a scenario writer's weekend retreat thing. Can't wait to talk about games for the entirety of saturday.

Peasant utopianism is fascinating to me - in fact it's the inspiration for the scenario I'm currently writing. We don't need the past to imagine better futures - but fantasies can spark our imaginations!

Jordan Peterson: (sobbing in the most insane jacket you’ve ever seen) Men evolved to take out the trash

I think what I'm trying to do with my journaling game is delving into the feeling of having repeat nightmares. Dreams have always been fascinating to me. I'm firmly opposed to the 'noone wants to hear about your dreams' camp. I want to hear about all dreams, no matter how weird or funny they are!

Prompts are done, next up is testing and editing

Explorateur #2 launches on Dec 1st! In the meantime, I'm still publishing semi-regular articles about design. In today's article, I debate whether we need those "What is an RPG?" blurbs in our books. My short answer is no. My long answer is a lot more fun. www.explorersdesign.com/what-is-an-r...

I don't think I am at all capable of having less than three projects going at the same time. It is just so essential for me to be able to work on something else, when I'm burning out on the 'main project'. Then that other thing becomes the main project for a while.

When I was younger I knew a guy who described his hobby as "carpentry", but in practice he was mostly just gluing random shit together for the pure joy of taking several simple things and making them into one larger, more fucked up thing. I think a lot of "designing tabletop RPGs" is much the same.

First drafts for three suits now written for my journaling game. I think a day more of sustained effort and I'll have something testable.

If you want to review Heirs of the Leviathan, just go ahead and reach out, I'll send a copy. Hell, if you need it for a video or something I'll ship you a zine!

I have managed to do nothing productive this weekend. Which is a success! I'm trying to get into the groove of productivity on weekdays, relaxation in the weekend.
