Wow! Thank you 🙏🏻 I’ll work my way through this lot… a couple have already been recommended, which is a great sign!

I have an idea for a horror book that I’m excited about, but I need to research the genre a LOT before I can even begin to write it 😅

This sounds awesome! 🤩 And to be honest - I’ve had so many good spinach recipes I think I’m going to end buying more 🤣

Tarragon butter? You could freeze it and then slice off as required.

I truly believe anyone’s writing can be made even better by keeping an eye out for crutch words 🤓

Also good ones! (I overuse these in everyday texts/posts as well! 🤭)

It’s so difficult to retrain your brain!

“Just” is another great one to check for, and is definitely one women overuse in emails etc, especially in a professional setting. Sometimes I take them out, sometimes I leave them in. It really depends on who I’m emailing and why 😅

If you plan to submit your work to agents and/or publishers, it's useful to check your manuscripts for this kind of repetitiveness. Removing them where they are not absolutely necessary will tighten up your work.

That's not to say that these words can never be used. There is always a time and a place. Similarly, you could remove the word/phrase altogether and your sentence/scene would still make sense.

As a writer, if you find yourself falling into the trap of over-using words like 'looked' 'stared' 'walked' 'stood' and 'standing' it's handy to have some options available.

Each writer has their own unique set of crutch words, but there are a few that I can guarantee to find in almost every manuscript I work on.

Absolutely! Consistently wrong is definitely easier to fix than erratic!

That’s definitely one option!
