When a bag of dog treats accidentally falls out of the grocery bag and nobody notices until you've eaten every last treat ... Best day ever! #dogsofbluesky #rescuedog #doglover #dogmom #supermutt

Sunday mornings are for sitting on the porch with my puppies, listening to the breeze in the trees, watching the birds and butterflies, and communing with nature. #naturelover #backyardbliss #springmornings #favoriteplace

A beautiful day at the Arboretum.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching all 17 minutes of this video of Rep. James Talarico calling out Rep. Stan Gerdes on the absurdity of his furries bill. Thank you @jamestalarico.bsky.social for pointing out what a waste of time this hearing was when there are real problems the #txlege could solve.

A year ago, we adopted this little kangaroo chaos demon to our family. As challenging as the first few months were, she's grown up to be the best girl girl. Happy gotcha day, sweet girl! ❤️❤️❤️ #dogsofbluesky #rescuedog #supermutt #dogs #mustlovedogs #allieshavenanimalrescue

Lovely lunch with bookish friends and a trip to the local bookstore to support @neighborbookstx for #independentbookstoreday. Did you support your local bookstore today? Show me your book haul. #books #bookish #booksky #amreading #tbrpile #bookshopping

It’s Indie Bookstore Day! If you need an online option, check out Do Good Books. It is run by my friend Alissa to highlight social issues, promote banned books, and support local nonprofits, which receive a portion of the sales. As she says, read good and do good!

Christ, here we are

What independent bookstore are you visiting today? #booksky #books #independentbookstoreday #neighborbooks #supportlocal

Texas! House Bill 1375 would allow civil suits against any bookstore that allowed children access to content the plaintiffs feel is “harmful to minors.” Most bookstores don't have the money to defend themselves against these suits. Add a public comment while it's still in committee.

Walz: "This is how government is supposed to work. It's not supposed to be one old man in the Oval Office sending out middle of the night tweets that shock markets into free fall. It's not supposed to be a bunch of 20 somethings unelected and firing everyone. It's not supposed to be chaos."

North Texas friends, @betoorourke.bsky.social is holding a town hall in Denton this Saturday. I highly recommend it if you need a dose of energy and optimism. Beto’s speeches always make me feel like I can go slay dragons. Go and connect with your people! (It will be outside so dress accordingly.)

In the hour of darkness and peril and fear, let’s all channel a little Paul Revere. @hcrichardson.bsky.social #paulrevere #boston250

Anniversary of Revere’s ride.

If my books scraped for LLM pretraining are worthless, then stop taking my books and using them for your training, Meta. "We won't pay you for your worthless crap, but we need your worthless crap" is quite the take. The rapant devaluing of human lives and human work in this era is repulsive.

This week on The SFWA Blog... "Butt in the Chair: How Disability Changed My Writing Habits" by Catherine Tavares. When chronic pain says no more "butt in the chair," here are some strategies to try to rebuild a thriving writing routine. Read at www.sfwa.org/.../butt-in-...

Another reason to resist delegating the creation of sentences to an algorithm. It promises to save you work and time, but what takes is your truth, your thoughts, your freedom and your soul.

Brain too fried to write much, but I’m here to say that today my lifelong dream came true. My debut novel is out in the UK and you can now buy it in shops. Here are the 500 Goldsboro Books copies I signed. Ok, g’night.

New York! 😳 Fifth Avenue is filled. Trump will hate this 🎉 #HandsOff #FiftyFiftyOne #HandsOff2025

#handsoff on a cold, rainy, windy day in Mckinney, Texas. This is what democracy looks like. Hands off our books, bodies, neighbors, social security, Medicare, Medicaid, science, schools, libraries, universities, research, civil rights. Hands off our Democracy! #resist #april5

Look, people probably wouldn't be trying to curtail libraries' activities and cut their funding if libraries didn't engage in problematic behaviors like "having information" and "helping people."

Gen Xers: Remember when we graduated into a recession and people called us slackers with McJobs? We, too, need to form solidarity with the younger generation graduating into this mess. I have two Gen Z kids; I'm witnessing the struggle firsthand. Don't mock them like elitists, and please hire them.

We're not just a system of leaders. We're a system of participants in every level of society & culture. It’s easy to get millions of people to point the finger at a single politician & say: YOU need to change. It’s very difficult to get the same people to hold up a mirror & say: I need to change.

Tonight, between Booker and the Florida results, is a night to remember that the unraveling of American democracy is not inevitable. Trumpism’s vision for the future is not inevitable. We have a voice—and a vote too.

Thank you Senator @corybooker.com! That’s the post…

Creatives all over the world need to unite on this. Talk about it, shout about it, get your organizations to act.

But that “creativity” is simply the vacuuming up of art and literature created by real artists and writers, without their consent, so that the AI company can boost their revenue or lower their costs. That’s not a “knee-jerk” assessment; that’s just facts.

this is disgusting.

Castro: "The idea that this information, if it was presented to our committee, would not be classified, you all know is a lie. That's ridiculous."

The lying and the staggering incompetence around this is astounding. And dangerous.
