Yes. I don’t think that the two incidents were related, but it’s really too much. Since Tuesday I’ve only been going on campus right before my class and leaving right after. Feels terrible all around.

Just got the email that shelter-in-place order has been lifted and so am rushing to get home. It’s just been too much.

Classes cancelled, alarms going off. Rethinking how I want to organize my work day to minimize time in the office to avoid all of this, starting tmrw.

격히 공감합니다! 과연 학생들은 알까요 때로는 교수들이 본인들보다 더 수업하기 싫다는걸요 ㅎㅎ

Love this—hope you are doing well!

For me, thrifting has turned out to be truly the self/mental health care that I didn’t know I needed but am so glad to have now. It’s like a mega garage sale indoors, and there’s something so meditative and calming about combing through my favorite sections, item by item.

I don’t get this either/or mentality. We need both—hell, we need everything. In the idiom of American football, now is the time for all of the Hail Mary passes!!!

Obviously they are easier to have if you have a smaller lecture, but I’ve found that students really like them and become less reliant on slides if they’re given exercises to talk to their peers. Hope you have better engagement with your students 🫂

As you know from our co-working sessions last year, I end up sharing slides with students right before our lecture or if I forget to “publish” on Canvas, right after. Also, I’ve learned that small group discussions about the info on slides really helps with engagement!

THIS!! Not only is there an entire doctrine in US con law called the political question, but more generally, there are political contexts to every law—law, like everything else, is the product of politics.

Agreed 1000 percent. Not the best way to build solidarity when we need it most.

It helped to internalize the message that there are no true emergencies that would come thru via email—those I would be alerted by a call on my cell. I also batch-reply to all students, once a week, and no one has complained. It’s totally changed my workflow for the better.

Totally agree with turning off notifications on the phone! I also agree not having email up on your computer while doing other tasks. I have set times during the day where I’ll check email on my phone just to read the header, only opening up email on my computer if I need to reply.

Love how it resonates with the name of your business!

So true! Thanks for sharing the story about your friend and her quest—I realize that many options for donation and recycling are location-specific, too.

All the more meaningful since they gave a talk right on/after martial law was declared in SK last month, and offered some reflections on the topic there, too. Thanks for sharing this!

as I spent new year’s day doing the same with my sister near where she lives. Here’s to finding more treasures in the new year!

Something similar happened to me at the end of my summer travels—I got stuck at LGA for 48+ hrs due to crew timing out plus weather issues affecting all NY/NJ airports. It’s so stressful! Hoping that you’ll be able to fly out soon.

Hoping for containment of the fires soon for the safety of you and everyone else in LA.

Already hearing cars skidding on the roads here, and the snow has only just really started 😣

Turned the heat up a bit higher than usual to compensate for the lower-than-usual temps, and filled some buckets with emergency water. Here’s hoping for an uneventful night, since the snowfall is supposed to be the worst then!

You had such an intense 2024! Also, remember, we don’t invite that kind of chaos into our lives, hence not surprised by your TL 😉
