My takeaway from this is that we have failed to teach history properly and we’ve failed to impress upon young people what the realities of authoritarian governance are for ordinary people. We’ve failed to convey that history is absolutely relevant to now. www.thetimes.com/uk/media/art...

I am so thrilled to have been part of Emma Rutherford’s research team to reidentify this stunning portrait as Princess Mary, the future Queen Mary I. Displayed at Compton Verney, we argue that it was painted by Susannah Horenbout in c.1546 and is a rare example of her work. #Tudor #ArtHistory #MaryI

One of Edward II's first acts as king was to elevate Piers Gaveston (a simple knight) to earl, a title usually reserved for royalty. I think he considered Piers his brother, family member and equal and this charter demonstrates as much.
