No, it will be released in the US as well but not until August (though many U.K. booksellers like Blackwells ship internationally if thatβs an option and itβs out here in about a week π Iβm not nervous, Iβm totally fine)
Without making it weird, Iβm so excited to get this book, as a graduate of a Barmash program and having lived in Riyadh a bit. Donβt mind me while I fangirl. π
Haha not weird at all π you have no idea how nice all this is to hear because I often feel like wtf am I even doing and do people care about this stuff? So it means a lot! Nice to meet you on here! (I wonder if we ever overlapped in Riyadh.)
Unless you applied for a U.S. visa in 2008 or 2009, I doubt weβd have met - we had pretty strict security lockdowns at that time. In any case, I survived studying under Prof Barmash (itβs uhh an ordeal) and stuck with the region, though Iβm more interested in more recent history.
After reading Elif Shafak's latest book I was really keen to learn more about this period of history and location so was very grateful to get an early copy from NetGalley and it's absolutely brilliant. Physical copy on order as I know I'm going to want to reread this one!
Itβs a history of ancient Mesopotamia through objects found in a princessβs palace from 2,500 years ago. They provide a way into writing, science, warfare, women, and more. Those artefacts long predate her era, so the book also explores how people in ancient Mesopotamia understood their own history
That looks like an interesting book, I Leo Pena, my ego wanted to come and make a silly: "God Nose that book is about." Get it two crying eyeballs, like, 2 rivers would be surrounding a nose. Anyhow I still made it with the cringe joke. I am proud of you for creating a book and having it in 3D. πβοΈπ¦π§²
Oh my! It has a beautiful bookcover. I can't wait to get mine. You give yours a huge hug from a little old lady in Alaska. Please annotate a cooy with your very own margin notes... please use cuneiforms! 50 years from now in some musty bookstore, I want my grandchildren to find it & see your work.
If youβre happy to share a mailing address, Iβll send you one once itβs released βΊοΈ my email is googleable or searchable on the Wolfson College Oxford website ππ½ please feel free to reach out
i sent a private message to your email. if there was a way to send it here i would but i barely understand this program and am still learning. thank you so much. I am so proud of you.
Haha yes please do!! And I love the shininess! Thank you soooooo much for sharing it again. You have no idea how much it means to me. Iβm so scared no one will buy it π and the support is giving me life right now
I have no doubt that itβll be a smash πͺπ» But I get how you feel β itβs super weird when you realize that what you wrote is an actual, physical book all of a sudden π
Recently finished Eric Clineβs β1177 BC: the year civilization collapsedβ. It whet my appetite for learning about Bronze Age +/-history. Looking forward to reading your book!
Yes! Not sure when that gets released though. All this stuff is new to me π but Iβll keep everyone posted on here. Thank you so much for your interest in the book! ππ½

βPlease, can you donate to me and help my family in Gaza? I swear to you that I am asking you to do this and I am embarrassed that we have reached this situation πππβ
Best of luck with the book.
