My musical tribute to the legendary singer and pianist Roberta Flack who has died at the age of 88.

I thought COVID taught us how infinitely less joyful our lives were without access to the arts. The loss of music and arts education across our education system needs reversing. SAVE CARDIFF UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MUSIC - Sign the Petition! chng.it/RNG8HPvZW5 via @UKChange

"Investing in young people’s mental health should be one of the cornerstones of a fiscally responsible government." Better mental health support would help young people and the economy, says Ellie White of YoungMinds www.bmj.com/content/388/...

This column has been the second most read on the whole Guardian site today and it’s all credit to Rosy who literally used her last voice to speak out about this country’s care crisis. Please do continue to read and share. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Very lucky to have seen #MarienelaNunez twice last year at #RoyalBallet. Just listened to her on #DesertIslandDiscs and delighted that the joy she brings those who watch her performances is matched- if not exceeded-by her own joy of dancing #ballet #dance

Ladybird book in the spotlight. The Night Sky- with artist Robert Ayton’s lovely inky skies and glowing light (1965)

Just watched #ACompleteUnknown and loved it. Growing up my mum spoke a lot of the protest movement in the 60s and her love of the music of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez & Pete Seeger. She still has the albums. This film bought it all to life

I'm increasingly seeing "AI made a diagnosis that doctors [might have] missed". Okay, AI is good at pattern recognition. But medicine isn't just diagnosis. Indeed, diagnosis is often the easy bit. Would you entrust your health decisions to a bot who can't pick out the traffic lights in a captcha?

Back to see this for the third time in 30 years! @sadlerswells.bsky.social

'the selection process for medical school can be seen as akin to selecting rugby players for a team. We have selected the best individual players, but they all happen to be outside backs and loose forwards.' 👏 👏👏 Wise words from surgeons Ros Pochin and John Mutu-Grigg #Equity #SystemicBias

Investment in social, community, primary & mental health care is desperately needed to reduce pressure on hospitals. Focus on emergency targets & ambulance handover will do nothing to tackle the root causes of of ‘corridor care’. We have become the place of refuge & last resort for the whole system.

In 50 years worth of inquiries into catastrophic failures in healthcare the normalisation of poor care features greatly. People then ask how this happens. This is how it happens. No red line.

9 years ago today, gone but not forgotten.

I love parkrun. I love volunteering. I love running. I love my home parkrun. I love tourism. I love that no matter where I turn up I’m with like-minded people. I love that it’s run by volunteers, entirely free & fully inclusive. This piece is ace. #loveparkrun www.independent.co.uk/life-style/p...

If you don't want to take it from me, perhaps you will listen to Oxford uni! Privatisation is worse for patients. This is about making money - not about patient wellbeing. If you want to help patients, invest in the NHS. www.ox.ac.uk/news/2024-02...

Lovely visit @museumofthehome.bsky.social first time for a number of years. Have always enjoyed the rooms through time at Christmas but loved the home galleries

Just a reminder: All vaccines used in public health have been rigorously tested. Their benefits greatly outweigh their risks. While a few people have a medical reason for not taking vaccines, most people (and the population overall) will benefit. Doctors who claim otherwise are irresponsible.

Christmas tree is up! Untangling the Christmas lights was once again an utter nightmare…..next year it has to be better 😆

'Snow effect, Damvillers.' (1882) Since the earliest days of his career, Jules Bastien-Lepage had been fascinated with the way that snow transforms a familiar landscape, softening forms, reflecting light, and unifying the landscape in tone and texture. An exquisite picture.

When your RE teacher starts wearing a wig it can be #awkward. To break the ice I’ve been using my wig as a teaching tool. This week I have taught lessons on 1. Craving - using my craving for my old hair & new wigs. 2.Why change makes knowledge hard - how can I know Miss if her wig keeps changing?
