Payouts have collapsed since a law change in 2014 forced applicants to prove they are innocent ‘beyond all reasonable doubt’ – a drastically insurmountable hurdle for the vast majority of the wrongfully convicted.

Malkinson stood outside the Court of Appeal in 2023 wearing a t-shirt that read ‘Innocent, and not the only one’, highlighting the plight of those who fight for years to have convictions overturned. Ironically he now becomes one of the only ones to receive any financial redress for what he suffered.

I think Trump would positively welcome that outcome. He's only interested in power, not making ordinary peoples' lives better.

One aspect really underscores the unlawfulness of it all: because Musk hasn't been formally appointed to anything, he has not taken the obligatory oath to the Constitution, placing him beyond the outer perimeter of literally everyone with any kind of constitutionally valid government job in the US.
