Just amending my reply to add: thanks for clarifying. Assuming you meant 10.8.1, and looking at the sections redacted (and comparing to related NIST guidelines and IRS 1075 to get a sense of the content), I'm a bit freaked out.

Oh! Maybe you meant 10.8.1. I see that's gone from the IRS site. No bueno! Actually, if you look at the numbering on the IRS website, you can see a bunch of removed pages

The screen shot I had seen was from part10, specifically IRM 10-008-055, related to Network Security. I didn't look at the whole thing, but spot check looked like the redacted areas were consistent. Downloaded 2023 version here: www.irs.gov/downloads/ir...

Those were publicly redacted sections, for official use only, and what's up now is consistent with PDF and archive.org versions from 2024 and earlier. Nothing fishy, it's just not a great practice to put the gritty details of your network security setup on the public internet.
