really hard pressed to find a historical example of an invasion by a hostile foreign power where the invading army immediately found work mainly in construction, hospitality and agriculture rather than do army stuff like capture cities or ford rivers or "establish enfilade" (whatever that is)

saw a comment on a Trump post, "love this version of the White House, it's like a movie every day!" and god...that's part of it, isn't it? Trump is entertainment to these people. the post was entirely fabricated nonsense lies but that didn't matter, it was *content*

there was a demand for labor and a supply for labor, the market responded. people did what people do, put down roots, made friends, became part of the community. we don't have rational immigration laws that make this orderly because racists are afraid of a welcoming, open society

we're running into the point where most Republicans are staring down the abyss of just going all in or backing off, and backing off is an ego death to these people, so they're going to go all in. all just an doom loop of "you can't tell me what to do/I can tell you what to do" rationalization
