my dad was a diabetic who was uninsured for most of his adult life and often couldn’t get the meds and treatments he needed to control his disease. we never voted the same way. but that doesn’t mean he deserved to die at 67. some of you sound just as broken as the people you want to beat.

I think this was the entire conclusion of @jamieloftus.bsky.social "My Year In Mensa" podcast which all of you should definitely listen to so you can understand how these people actually are. Reading Nate silver's tweets isn't enough to understand viscerally the IQ chuds

Way to remind everyone of the most condescending, micromanaging boss they ever had -- the one who didn't know what actually needed to get done but demanded absolute control nonetheless.

trillion dollar industry that will revolutionize everything

"Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done." White evangelicals have given these words the feel of a threat, as they champion a regime intent on the dismantling of secular governance. @mccrummen.bsky.social sheds light on one branch, the New Apostolic Reformation. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

Please stop attributing Musk's behavior to "drugs." People who use, struggle with, and rely on drugs have enough problems right now -- they are also humans.

Jason is right here. A bunch of us spent our first couple of decades being violently programmed to fall in line when this moment came, but we learned about the broader world and we're doing the opposite. People can grow and change. It doesn't minimize past harms, but there's still hope.

I am sad to share that all Retirement & Disability Research centers have been ordered to stop work. My fellowship will no longer exist, and the work of so many talented researchers and dedicated staff will be cut short. www.ssa.gov/news/press/r...

My advisor, @profgabriele.com , pointed out that this tweet is more or less the perfect summation of what my dissertation is getting it. The terminally online, hateful and irony poisoned language-game of 4-Chan has become the language of politics in the most blatant and obvious way possible.

Really irritating to see people assuming that because this caller is from West Virginia, he voted for Trump. In the call he states he’s a Democrat. I have family in WV and they’re all Democrats who are pretty scared right now

The fatal shooting of a US border patrol agent in Vermont. The stabbing death of a landlord in California. An elderly couple murdered in Pennsylvania. Who are the so-called Zizians, the group allegedly linked to all these killings? buff.ly/3ENqfa5

As Justice Breyer said, "America’s public schools are the nurseries of democracy." Which means that by expanding voucher programs, the GOP is poised to erode not only the separation of church and state but also democracy, by using public money to promote Christian nationalism to kids.

Classical music album covers have tremendous “bard of the D&D campaign energy” if that makes sense.

How Microsoft completely failed one victim of non-consensual image abuse, not removing more than 100 explicit images for months. Everyone we spoke to for this story said the processes for removing non-consensual images are broken and big tech does whatever it wants (Resharing for the weekend)

What worriws me (and should worry us all) is we are coming to an end of efforts tech regulation and guardrails. This shift goes against the scientific evidence of the structural causes of tech enabled harms and their acceleration. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

This is basically my life, it just involves a lot more internet

spoiler: the answer it spat out was from an already published paper but the BBC is basically the yellow pages for llm scams at this point so that part was conveniently left out of this piece

This is important, I think. You hear cynicism about democracy on the left. Understandable bc the only democracy we know is bourgeois democracy: partial and compromised at best. But democracy isn't zero sum, on/off. A bit is better than none. You need some to get more. And we won what we have.

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

I'm here outside the Tesla showroom in Devon, Pa. west of Philly where about 10 hearty souls are protesting unelected billionaire Elon Musk #TeslaTakedown

I'm begging people to remember that 'meritocracy' was coined for a work of satirical fiction. It is not a real thing, and, as the satire suggested, defining 'merit' as a standalone measurable individual quality is impossible.

A huge and hugely contentious subject @timescarcass.bsky.social and myself covered in this one: The phenomena of "estranged parents" communities coalescing online, and their status as pipelines to Far-Right ideology. youtu.be/E0k-2fQRkfE?...

another great example along with Wired and Teen Vogue of how real journalism these days can be a lot braver at outlets where no one is trying to get in good with the White House press secretary they’re out here with us, reporting on what’s happening to us all, instead of trying to get inside access

Hello, Blue Sky! For my first post, I wanted to wish everyone as much peace as a sleeping polar bear in summer time 💜

NEW: Trump's pick to run the WH Faith Office, Paula White-Cain, has drawn blowback from a subset of conservative Calvinists influential among some in Trump's cabinet. Speaking to me, Doug Wilson called her an “erratic woman preacher who has been all over the map.” religionnews.com/2025/02/21/t...

every single YouTube music video for a song over 5 years old will have multiple comments that will make you go “Jesus Christ” at best and will haunt you forever at worst

I have questions: Where are the airlines in all this? Has any CEO from United, Delta, JetBlue, American, Virgin, etc. made public comments? A recent search turned up nothing. Surely safety is front of mind? Surely they're concerned about a loss in revenue due a loss in perceived safety?

WAIT -- who was doing the threatening?

Authoritarianism is inherently strange. Trump’s worsening madness and Musk’s repulsive behavior is part of that, but also it all provides an opening for actual resistance. The backlash is coming. It’s on us to be ready when the moment arrives. jaredyatessexton.substack.com/p/sound-and-...
