My favorite mixture of music and emotion in a movie ever: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzLs...

Next year we will be commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation, when we declared our independence from a king. “The Royal Brute of Great Britain” Never forget that.

Feels like a big middle finger to Roadkill Antivax Jr today. I took my meds, then went to the dr and got THREE-count'em-THREE vaccines. Flu, Covid, and the second shingles one. My arms ache a bit but so far I'm still standing.

This is Washington, D.C.

Fired up crowd in Seattle protesting Trump and Musk's assault on our institutions and democracy

every "government waste" list is someone going "haha, they're researching turtle slime" followed by people who know better saying two minutes later "that turtle slime research led directly to brain cancer treatments"

Happy President's Day from Union Square in NYC, which is filled with protesters preparing for a march down Broadway This picture is a fraction of the people in the park, and many people have already started marching It's a beautiful day. Let's do this 🧵

These are questions an editor should be asking before publication.

🧵Nice thread of photos from different rallies!

Think it’s important that English teachers cling earnestly to the maybe-dopey conviction that reading isn’t merely a skill set but a way of paying attention to ourselves and other people.

One thing I've learned about myself this year is that am physically unable to pass by girl scouts selling cookies without buying many cookies and that is just how it is

Very funny 🧵!

The US Budget is presented in so many different ways by so many different organizations you don't even have to do that much work. Not only are you allowed to ask, but if you have to ask you are demonstrating how fucking dumb you are.

It truly breaks my heart that after we went through COVID, the burnt out OG public health workforce *and* new grads/early career folks who went into it all bc they saw how vital it was during a pandemic, are now being fired, losing their funding, & ultimately shown how little our field is valued

True of the biomedical sciences in general. It's simultaneously saddening and infuriating. Our best and brightest being abused by our worst and dumbest.

I’m seeing an awful lot of posts from people on Bluesky responding to despairing scientists with the words “please keep going, the world needs you”. Scientists cannot keep going if we can’t keep a roof over our heads and our mouths fed.

TL;DR. Because Rubio has no abiding moral compass beyond self-promotion. Cowardice, sycophancy and an instinct for self-preservation at all costs is how these nominees were selected. He's a good dog, who will do what he's told. That's the whole story. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

“We must especially beware of that small group of selfish men who would clip the wings of the American eagle in order to feather their own nests.” -FDR, 1941

Ida B Wells is one of the most important and consequential organizers, intellectuals, theorists, sociologists, journalists of the 20th century [worldwide]. The vast majority of USians don't have a clue of her actual contributions. Because she didn't write academic tomes, she's understudied IMO.

Like 90% of Americans have zero idea that the biggest crime spree in US history is happening right now at the White House. It’d be cool if we had some profession whose job it is to inform them.

Natalie is Lumon’s (incredibly) attractive public face, defending the company in often contentious news interviews while never dropping her creepily pleasant facade. However, Lumon’s top executives are all white. It’s a classic example of strategic diversity. www.playtyperguy.com/p/why-cynica...

A note for Valentine’s Day memes of Trump and Musty: you can mock them without devolving into homophobia and anti-trans imagery
