It’s not even 9am and so far this morning I have bashed my hip on the doorframe, stood on a pin, knocked my head on the medicine cabinet door (the irony!) & trapped my finger in the cutler drawer. Either my spatial awareness is completely out of whack or the universe is warning me to go back to bed…

I have spent ALL day finishing off the revisions to my article due tomorrow. Still in my pyjamas, and not even stopped to eat since breakfast. Good old hyper focus kicked in at the last minute!

CILIP is concerned that the removal, hiding, and modification of data, research and other information resources by authorities in the USA is already starting to impede the vital work of UK information professionals. Read more👇 www.cilip.org.uk/news/693964/...

Books designed to be read only by human eyes are different from books designed to be read by machines, which is why Google will tell you that the phrase “shake my booty” can be found in an 1863 English translation of Don Quixote.

No amount of executive orders can make us cease to exist.

Here's video of Steve Bannon doing a Sieg Heil today at CPAC. It is what it is and it's what Bannon intended. Don't let yourself be gaslit.

Fab summary by @siobhanh.bsky.social on the recent Clarivate/ProQuest shenanigans. What seems at first a fairly esoteric issue of purchasing is actually a further effort by publishers to undermine libraries' ability to select, curate, preserve and maintain access to digital content. #ebookSOS

This was posted by the King Family. They know a lot about nonviolent resistance. Keep sharing.

I entirely agree, and I think we are going to see a lot of academic libraries cancelling packages and subs, and directing users to ILL, Open Access and OER resources in their place. But that gives rise to another challenge that this article doesn't address.... 1/ 📚

Cue a slew of Bond spinoffs, Bond TV series, Young James Bond, American James Bond, Bond rom-coms, and whatever else Amazon can wring out of the franchise

Having one of those days where I feel very sad and heavy and low, for no reason at all. Nothing different to yesterday but today I just feel blue.

If Joe Biden said this, the entire Republican Party would be yelling about Munich/1938/appeasement, & it would prompt nonstop front page headlines about whether he was mentally unfit to be president.

I have journal article revisions due on Monday, and I've got a really bad case of the Do Not Wannas. I'm like halfway there, I just need to get my head down and focus. *laughs hysterically in ADHD*

I hope America is as lucky as the delta jet - everyone survives but the right wing explodes

It is not they "complicate" things. It's that they are exploitative, predatory greedy bastards who want to keep bleeding us slowly. Except when that budget runs out, and it will. . . (I know locally some very hard conversations need to happen). #BadEconomy #exploitation #libraries #publishers

Libraries just want to own books. That’s it. It’s not hard to understand. Publishers needlessly complicate the picture with talk of models and licences and access, but it’s as simple as that. Libraries want to own books that we can lend to our users. 📚 #ebooksos

"Clarivate has launched a subscription-based content access strategy, while also phasing out one-time perpetual purchases of digital collections, print and digital books for libraries." My thoughts are...not appropriate for public airing, but if you know me and/or #ebookSOS, you can imagine. 📚

The Washpost, which is bleeding millions of dollars and shrinking its staff, accepted -- and then rejected -- a $115,000 ad that criticized Elon Musk. Anyway, here's the ad that the Post's business side didn't want its readers to see ⤵️ thehill.com/media/514849...

NATIONAL ARCHIVES UNDER ASSAULT: They’re coming for our history. The US archivist & staff resigned after Trump officials pushed to replace them w/loyalists. Not just records you’d expect—slave records, immigration records, Native American treaties—all at risk. Will they rewrite or destroy history?

In the coming weeks, a lot of slow-on-the uptake folks are going to begin belatedly realizing Trump is both an inept moron and a dangerous autocrat. Our great civic challenge in these trying times will be calmly welcoming them aboard instead of primal-screaming in their faces.

The geniuses at the Democratic Party settling on “maybe we were too woke” rather than “a cabal of billionaire pedophile Nazis are stealing your money and taking a sledgehammer to your future” is astonishing. Just one of those things

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

hey for anyone who might want to actually own their kindle books instead of renting them, or who might be thinking of switching to kobo etc and will want to convert them to epubs, you now only have one week before amazon kills your ability to download its ebooks www.theverge.com/news/612898/...

Today in ‘human bodies are weird’ my pinky finger on my right hand has randomly swelled up and gone red. No reason. Not jammed it, bashed it, trapped it, squeezed it, knocked it. Can still move and bend it without pain. Just super swollen and red, verging on purple at the end. 🤷‍♀️

Being medicated for my ADHD has been life-changing, but damn, I could do without the secondary Reynaud’s and chillblains. They do not make English winters fun.

Had to renew my passport. Miss my old EU burgundy one already. 🇪🇺😔
