Immigration is GOOD and we should have MORE of it. The defensive crouch even a lot of "good" Democrats adopt on this issue is deafening in its futile cowardice.

There's a guy who looks like a character in a Conner O'Malley short film who dresses in all black with wraparound sunglasses and rides a scooter down Euclid Avenue blasting Y2K-era divorced guy jams like 3 Days Grace and now that I've seen him a few times, I want the backstory.

I feel like I've just been yelling at NPR in the car a lot more in the past week.

We love to see it.

RIP big dog

A thing that drove me nuts in 2020 is hearing suburban folks tell me that my city was "raped" by protesters bc they were upset their favorite places to eat were closed & refused to understand why I'd be more mad about the CPD acting the way they have (theft, sexual misconduct, murder, negligence)

#BookoftheDay: Today's recommended book is about one of the beautiful cities of Kazakhstan - the city of Almaty 🍎🍏🌿 #Kazakhstan #CentralAsia #Almaty

Honestly this has been one of the weirdest parts of post-evangelical life to see all the people who read the "Left Behind" books getting really excited about a "man of lawlessness."

good thread on immigration and what makes us tick

Which is also why every organization and business pretended to give a fuck about racism and homophobia until Trump was allowed to come back. Anyone acting like the protests, and Trump’s insane response to them, didn’t change things are either lying or were asleep for all of 2020.

I've said it before: the constitution of the United States of America is fundamentally a gentleman's agreement, and all the gentlemen are dead

I just said-- "Hey maybe Obama isn't the one to deliver a feel-good inspirational speech about ICE because" *points to factual, public records* The crashout is telling--- about the character of America, and how we treat the "other", regardless of party.

When I think "am I being a weird libertarianesque crank about 'smart cities' too much," the answer is always never enough.

For all you locals, the archivist at the Diocese of Cleveland is really nice and has been extremely helpful for my grad students doing research on old Irish history in Cleveland and the like.

NOACA has issued an air quality advisory for tomorrow due to more wildfire smoke entering the region. 1. Follow real time air quality on AirNow.gov and map.purpleair.com 2. Close your windows and run your HVAC fan so the air is filtered 3. Run air purifiers if you have them 4. Limit time outside

Now this is public education without insulting the tangible emotional trauma as a distraction.

all nerds have the right to bitch about their preferred hobby becoming more expensive

This is what's been driving me f'ing crazy about the Democrats. They ceded the immigration debate to the GOP for no reason. Immigration is a net positive to this country and it's not even close. We have a broken immigration system but the problem isn't the immigrants, it's the politicians.

If anyone in Cleveland needs a free hot meal this week my friend is cooking Wednesday's 6/11 free community meal at Denison UCC at 99th and Denison 10AM-1PM. Roast turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, brown sugar-ginger carrot medallions, buttered corn and strawberry pretzel jello dessert.

has anyone considered ai generating images of people at protests in an attempt to revise what really happened might be a bad thing actually

I got a mailer for First Things because some family members subscribe to it and it was so insecurely derisive of people for wanting to be on the right side of history.

I feel way less guilty about spending $20-30 a week at the thrift store because the boyfriend is into project drag strip cars and amps.

I was sold hearing Brendan Canty playing some really Massive Attack-esque drums here. Baxter truly doesn't miss. This is a great morning soundtrack.

I really hate this oversimplification of "flyover country" because there are vibrant Mexican communities in small towns in Ohio too, and they fly their flags and throw a great Cinco de Mayo party where everyone shows up to eat tacos and watch the luchadors.

oh man this RULES.

When non-citizens reside with you in your land, you shall not wrong them. Rather, the non-citizens who reside with you shall be to you as your citizens; you shall love each one as yourself, for you were non-citizens in the land of Egypt: I God am your God. Leviticus 19:33-34

Also point this out to anyone you can. These were not planned protests. These were normies getting the supplies for their weekend projects or at a restaurant and saw their servers getting hauled off and were like this is some bullshit.

This is a profoundly shortsighted choice by Ohio State. It’s a gross dereliction of its duty to educate students both academically and ethically.
