I like the Biden spokesman response: “Yes, there were physical changes as he got older, but evidence of aging is not evidence of mental incapacity.” Trying to calculate how “drop out vs hide it” would change the election odds doesn’t seem clear at all. I don’t think you can hindsight that one.

My vote would be for Immer perf, but many of these seem like good ones to work on!

You are right, it is all too easy to slide toward “yeah, but what have you done for me lately?” It is good to be reminded of one’s positive contributions.

Interesting, I can def see that technique being helpful! And yep, besides collecting the actions, that 'engine' lib also avoids waiting for async things (like `delay`s) without any mocking. It simply "runs" your generator and checks the effects. I think I'd need to mock more in a Listener test.

I really like the Listener Middleware, but am not sure how to best test the logic a Listener might contain. For all the downsides sagas have, using npmjs.com/redux-saga-test-engine makes testing sagas fairly pain-free. Having docs to cover "writing unit tests for listeners" would be great!

For those (like me) that didn’t get the reference, this is pulled from this 1995 Newsweek cover

Congrats, this looks great! I noticed the docs reference Tanstack Store, and was intrigued. Store may solve some problems we are having, but was curious about some usage, such as this spot. Is that `useStore(api․store, state => state.isSubmitting)` doing anything useful? github.com/TanStack/for...

I appreciate your honest discussion here. As you say below, one can only hope Bezos’ approach doesn’t infect the news desk, but it isn’t difficult to imagine now. It *should* be hard to imagine, but alas, that’s the state of things.

This isn’t the full picture. They said “if you try to put $15/hr in with COVID relief, that would violate the Byrd rule and be illegal,” and then Republicans would have sued to enjoin the law and definitely had standing. Seems like an important detail!

I’ve read more and more people describe their frustrations with VoiceOver. Truly is a shame, you do all this work to make complex components accessible, just to have the technology fail on you. Thanks for the write up though! Very helpful.

Did this PR not land? I was excited to ditch my `Pretty<>` helper.

Hey remember that one time when the AG was on the tarmac with the spouse of a presidential candidate for a short amount of time and it was a national scandal?

I really want Ted Nelson to reply with “I named it ‘hyperlink’ for a reason” or something.

The video player needs some love. The inline pause button is too small. When I tap on the video to make it full screen and then pause and close the full screen, the video starts playing again. Oh, and inline video’s aspect ratio is too off, I’d prefer `object-fit: contain` rather than `fill`.

They say in the opinion they don’t speak to “object code” (compiled machine code), only source code. Are there newer opinions that do speak to software more broadly and not only human-readable source code?

I hope so. It feels hard to know how many people’s bullshit detectors were able to go off hearing Trump speak, especially since I am still surprised not enough people were able to reach similar conclusions in 2016.
comment in response to post
I am not! But a ton of people *do* operate off vibes. Same thing happened with Hillary. I heard so many say “idk I just don’t like her,” and it was so frustrating to try and combat.

I largely agree with “it’s always been hard,” but this definitely doesn’t feel like a win, and given the fact that we *still* are comparing this like it’s just a normal presidential race between two candidates with different policy ideas, any non-win that comes along feels real bad man.

The vibes are now off. In the SOTU, Biden gave off BDE. Here, he looked old, and Trump’s non-stop lies make it easier for voters to continue their collective amnesia about what happened during Trump’s presidency. Also sucks that the media will eat this the fuck up.

Product work is fun. Given your previous position, do you think you’ll write publicly about your projects?
