True, and the Reichstag fire was Nazis own doing and not triggered by any specific act of resistance. I guess my points were that something similar might happen here and that an ides of march scenario might not be the most effective form of resistance, not if you want to preserve democracy.

Yes, but not as the leading global power it has been since WW2. That position essentially depended on it being the leader of ”the West”, a post-war construction that is now being dismantled before our eyes. Many people around the world no doubt cheer, but I fear the human cost of the instability.
