well it's not about the camera per se, but who is controlling the camera. if it's a passive security camera that's always recording that's different from software deciding when to produce an image. who audits the software? who decides if it's fair? can the accused see the source code?

also, you're probably the perfect person to weigh in on this issue: what about the concept of being able to confront your accuser? i'm generally pro traffic camera, but when you get a ticket from one you are ultimately getting penalized by an opaque piece of software

It's not quite as online as something like Today in Tabs, but kind of a deeper dive in to broader cultural issues, almost all of which are internet related

It's hard not to let my little kid fantasies of "omg you worked at the baseball card factory!" run wild, but also I imagine most of the people working there just have Normal Jobs

This notably omits references to "Operation Just Cause", which greatly colors Panamanian perception of the US to the present day: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...

How much would you be trying to raise?

almost looks like a corona/static discharge on to the film itself, though that tends to look more lightning-like: www.vetaphone.com/wp-content/u...

That's 100% my understanding as well. I would just think someone somewhere in the admin would be like uhh, I don't know "the US is such a big market that some companies can't afford to raise prices and lose us as customers so they'll eat the tariff cost"? Like any sort of remotely plausible reason.
comment in response to post
What is the good-faith reasoning of why these tariffs are even being considered? It seems pretty straightforward companies will raise prices accordingly and consumers will effectively be paying the tariffs. If we ignore outright deception, what is the honest (but probably wrong) reasoning here?

And I was in Spain a few months ago and McDonalds was introducing Friends bobbleheads! Weird revival of an (omg, apparently) 30-year old show www.firstforwomen.com/entertainmen...

I have a friend that did UV lamp technical sales and got to go to a bunch of weird trade shows. He came back from some sort of dairy/ice cream show with the news that "inclusion" is the industry term for anything added to your ice cream (cookie dough balls, chocolate flakes, cherry chunks, etc).

have you had any experience running the deepseek models locally?

Wouldn't be the first time for facebook. I think their purchase of mapillary + their investment in to OpenStreetMap (daylight/overture maps) was seen as an attack on google's mapping dominance, similar through making the free alternatives more attractive.

Along these same lines, this movie has been on my to-watch list for a bit: m.youtube.com/watch?v=XKgQ...
