By me: ‘Everything we had floated away’: Hurricane Helene survivors in rural Southern Appalachia help each other rebuild after the climate disaster as misinformation, disinformation and conspiracy theories swirl @thaliajuarez.bsky.social 📷📸 www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

Undocumented workers prepare to clean up LA’s fires amid ICE raids A leaked memo warned of a large scale immigration enforcement action in LA this month. I spoke to workers about the risk: “If God allows, I’ll stay. If not, I’ll leave if the state tells me to” capitalandmain.com/undocumented...

In an effort to keep tabs on climate stuff happening during the second Trump term, we've got a running tally going. Please send updates and tips if you've got em! drilled.media/news/trump2

‘We surpassed human limits to stop this’: LA megafires show our approach to fire needs to change As the climate crisis turbocharges wildfires, adding resources won’t be enough to stop the destruction – our relationship with land must be remade. @hilarybeaumont.bsky.social

We need better fire policy in California - it starts with accepting fire as part of the natural landscape “We surpassed our human limits to stop this” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

The Eaton Fire ravaged the historic Black community of Altadena This week, I met Bill Threadgill who was picking through the ashes of his home, setting aside copper pipes to sell, and searching for his cat, Catra “Uprooted unexpectedly. It’s devastating,” he said www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/1/...

Many undocumented families will be excluded from FEMA assistance and unemployment.

A similar thing happened in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Thousands of immigrant day laborers - an estimated 63% of which were Hondurans (I surveyed them) - were a massive force in rebuilding that city. America is not worthy of its immigrants - including the undocumented ones.

I spent the weekend in Pasadena with immigrant day laborers who mobilized hundreds of volunteers to help LA wildfire victims ❤️‍🔥

Immigrant day laborers have organized a massive mutual aid effort to help Los Angeles wildfire victims After climate disasters like fires, floods and hurricanes, it’s often day laborers who are cleaning up debris and responding to what the community needs capitalandmain.com/as-los-angel...

At least five people dead as overwhelmed firefighters struggle to contain LA blazes www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Here's that moment.

People living in the Santa Monica Mountains have been preparing for wildfires like the Palisades Fire They're spending big money to add sprinklers, stucco exteriors, ember-proof mesh - even building bunkers in their bathrooms But not everyone can afford to adapt: www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/8/...

400+ years after the "First Thanksgiving" most Americans have no idea that the Wampanoag people are still here. My tribe, the Aquinnah Wampanoag, is on Martha's Vineyard and we're still fighting for our land and rights. We’re also doing some cool stuff. 🧵👇 if you’d like to learn more & support us

The environmental scar of the border wall will last for millennia.

Nice reporting by Hilary Beaumont on how big oil & gas works with native peoples in the southwest US to promote their LNG export schemes. floodlightnews.org/fossil-fuel-...

The effort to undermine the Maori treaty is led by David Seymour, who has ties to the Atlas Network and who used to work at a Canadian think tank that has called the discovery of graves of Indigenous children at a residential school a "hoax." I wrote about it: drilled.media/news/trfst-f...

Super refreshing to see so many climate people on here! Here's a thread of my recent work - what story do you want me to cover next? 🌎

This is an excellent piece on a fossil fuel front group trying to find a Pacific route for US LNG (not sure if Hilary Beaumont is on bluesky?) floodlightnews.org/fossil-fuel-... I covered this group in 2020 when they were backing Jordan Cove LNG in Oregon. www.desmog.com/2020/06/18/o...

Hey! I'm a climate journalist based in Los Angeles. I cover climate change and things that intersect with it — especially immigration, agriculture and Indigenous rights I'm looking for my climate people over here 💚

NEW: A fossil fuel group is working with US tribes to boost LNG exports The group claims it is reducing global emissions, but a recent peer-reviewed study found LNG export emissions can be 33% worse than coal floodlightnews.org/fossil-fuel-...
