The wild part is PCH and sunset is literally right across the street from the beach. But running into the ocean wonβt even save you from falling embers
Yikes. As far as I can tell from online weather apps, the worst wind gusts are clocking around 60, with sustained winds 30-40. Not yet the potential 100 mph winds mentioned yesterday.
For decades weβve know climate change will cause extreme weather and create events like this wildfire. Yet, we always respond with shock and surprise. I feel for all who are at risk and who will suffer loss. But, sadly more of this will come.
How often does the average person have to abandon their car because of an oncoming fire? I'd be operating on habit and instinct, which means taking the keys with me when I leave the car.
Well, if you live in a place that has constant wildfires you should have an idea what to do. Like you should know what to do if you live in an area that has earthquakes or Hurricanes.
If you live in a place that has constant bushfire, the only thing you should do is move to a place that has not constant bush fire. Now, it seems reasonable that nobody builds in a place that burns every ten years, si it might be that something is happening that changes the state of things
I meanβ¦ theyβd have to bulldoze through the cars anyway? Itβs not like the firefighters would have time to drive the cars out of the way. Plus, my house keys are attached to my car keys- if Iβm fleeing for my life my instinct would be to grab my cat, my keys, and my wallet. This fire moved so fast
I can't help but think of the video I saw a few years back of a guy going back to his neighborhood after a wildfire took it, finding his neighbors' charred skeletons in their burnt out cars, and weeping at the destruction and death the fire wrought.
Oh, I didn't realize that they got caught in traffic and had to run. Yikes! One forgets that there are only a few entrances and exits going away from the beach....
The evacuation orders came so fast and everyone was trying to get out at the same time that it created gridlock. Cars started catching on fire. If people didnβt abandon their cars, this could have been another Paradise situation
No, the police told them to get out and run. Are you going have the right state of mind to think βoh, donβt forget to leave your keys so they can carefully move my carβ while the fire is raging towards you? This sucks, but this wind is scary awful
We could've had an administration that recognizes this is an accelerating trend, and done their best to put in measures to the mitigate the increasing threat to life and property damage climate change is bringing
Instead, we elected the guy who thinks immigrants are eating pets in Ohio ππΏββοΈ
While also making a push for more EV usage, and including the creation of electric charging stations to facilitate that as part of the infrastructure deal
I never claimed the Dems were perfect. But even if some take the oil lobbies money with one hand, others among them fight back with the other
Incoming guy will not only make zero attempts for progress, but will actively roll back some of the progress made. Partly because he'll be getting paid to do it, and partly just from spite. Let's not pretend the two choices were equal in this regard in ANY way

Happy to be wrong about this tho
Car ads should show how vehicles handle a burn over (they don't), not how they look driving thru puddles.
Remarkable.
You learn by experience.
Fire is a monster.
"ACT OF GOD" = nope
House always wins.
"Whoa, it's a warm breeze. Ah, gah, ah."
