I figured it out. I downloaded a 10 minute loop of cafe noise from mynoise.net and SoundAura to play it f-droid.org/en/packages/... . Now I can listen to podcasts and babbling simultaneously. Very frustrating. Hopefully this improves my ability to follow conversations in loud spaces!

This is the real point of TC's video about algorithmically tailored content and it missed me. Broadcast TV has/had a relatively small selection of options made for a broad audience, while YouTube has an enormous selection but you only see the fraction served to you. It becomes an echo chamber.
