Naw. I grew up in a generally loving environment, and to this day have enough relationships where it’s normal for us to express our feelings. I know better.

I was bout to say, cause had she come out as being from Nawlin in the first place, everybody would’ve said she was just Creole and called it a day.

That’s a privilege though. Adult life gave me an opportunity to learn and experience what life is like as a Black person in other parts of this country, AND, going back to “if not owned,” how Atlanta ain’t as free from it as I thought.
Not having to brand Joy™️ in this spiritual economy is a luxury.

LISSEN. Atlanta was majority Black from the 1960 Census to the 2020 Census, and I was born in 1985 spending my time between the SWATS and the Westside, educated in APS.
It was easy to go a year without seeing a nonblack person. I had no concept of police brutality as an institutional issue. Etc.

That’s what me and some of my friends call growing up in a predominately Black place operated (if not owned) by Black folk since we were born. While she ain’t perfect, formative years of Black police chiefs/DAs/principals bubbled us off from just how common it is to experience daily racism.

I hate to read it. I actually liked how Remake gave me a fresh experience around my favorite game of all time (I hated how they were sprinkling Sephiroth like parsley, but still).
I got 30 minutes into Rebirth and was like “okay I’m with the rest of yall now.” Damn shame.

It reminds me of my Atlanta Privilege®️ because 1) I didn’t think there was that much revolution going on for everybody to need a break from and 2) I didn’t realize so many Black people found it hard to do both. March on them people in the morning and cut up at the juke joint at night! Civil Recipes!

That’s the “otherwise.” First post says they’re different and I agree. I’m not saying it’s ethical; noting that in this case it is consensual (arguable because not everybody thinks the family’s consent is enough).

The bottom line says they have her family’s (legally sufficient, if arguable otherwise) consent. It does make me wonder how many non-consensual cases there are, especially since that Ghibli foolishness just happened.

No (but this was Atlanta Public Schools in the late 90s/early 00s, so in my adult life I’ve learned just how much of a bubble we lived in…considering…). bsky.app/profile/hisi...

I’m proud (and a lil privileged) to say my APUSH teacher was Mrs. Wilhelmina Smith, because that’s a mess.

I used to love going through my older sister’s issues of Heavy Metal, just spreading them out and looking at the covers for a while, then picking one to flip through. ⚡️
