I inch closer to new tattoo time everyday. I want to expand the one on my right arm to go up and encompass my shoulder, but I also want a completely new one on my left.

Yes. Transparency purposes.

This will result in people dying.

What the hell is Mt. Vernon doing, currently handing DeSantis statue propaganda?

Gotta get this from my local indie! My only resolution this year was to befriend a crow.

If you still have friends/family who think this administration will help them, talk to them about money....

We had a snow day today. I fixed the record player. I tried to assist my husband in collecting a stray ginger cat. I napped. I watched a lot of birds at my feeder. I made white chicken chili and then ate too much of it. Importantly, these moments of peace feuled my other activities.

Spent a lot of time thinking about Winter Soldier, why it’s usually at the top of MCU rankings, and how it fixed the “Superman is boring” problem by giving Steve a set of values that put him in conflict even with other heroes and having him commit to them despite the ease of giving up.

The tufted titmouse family that visits me is one my favorites. The cardinals are also big fans, and though they have not visited the feeder, I started noticing a pair of northern flickers who were regular backyard visitors.

This was a loud one this morning. Very displeased with the weather. I agree with him.

Standing in solidarity with the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, D.C. the Kennedy Center has canceled their performance with the National Symphony Orchestra.

THIS. I am just honest about how everything is making my work life hell right now. How I'm worried about my kid. How I'm worried about how my husband's job, mother-in-law's job, and my job are in the nonprofit sector. People get really quiet really fast when you are blatantly honest.

OMG.

I interrupt the timeline to let you know I met an okapi. He is now my entire personality.

Jesus.

Also, this flamingo giving the eye in Nashville this weeke.d is a whole mood.

My gosh, the work that Tennessee museums are doing. It is a privilege to sit and learn from the great nominations I saw this weekend. Go show some love for your local museums.

You ever sit in a Waffle House and think about how often its crowd so perfectly reflects the facets of American life?

I don't recommend he try.

This was so awful - I was in college when it happened. May her memory drive us to do better.

I remain committed to calling the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of Mexico with the same energy that old timers hiss out "Lake City" anytime someone calls it "Rocky Top."

It's a historian thing, but I recommend one of those 5-year diaries for the next bit. I started one in August to track changes in language and policy that might occur in the coming months.

I will never not miss the community that we built around MuseumEd Twitter. As much as I loved that group of people for their love of museums, it was the sheer power of the mass organizing, innovating, and community passion that I miss most.

My eldest just looked up from his phone while I listened to the news concerning Musk, and witheringly said in the way that only 14 year old can: "I don't usually pay attention to politics, but naming this thing DOGE? After a dead dog? That's so stupid."

Listen, this is a book title to describe the current insanity if I ever saw one.

Friend this morning asking about budget freezes. Told him things like the Soybean Lab were closing he said, "well being on the outside it's gonna be fun to see what happens." Me - "Losing my job is fun to watch?" Him - "I don't think you'll be affected." Me - "We all are." Make it hit home.

I am sickened by the loss of the NEA's Challenge America grants. It brought art to so many rural corners. Our communities will be worse without it.

And our local center thinks it will come back, too, because, "He's just looking for the fraud, he doesn't mean to pull the programs that help people." I went to the Wayback Machine & and saved the old RFPs for her. I also bluntly said, "There is no guarantee that this opportunity will come back."
