Why was I so delighted that King Oswiu died on 15th February? His murderous deeds are in my new book, which was published on 15th Feb. More about his wicked ways here: anniewhitehead2.blogspot.com/2025/02/king...

A Pictish stone was discovered by Anne MacInnes of North of Scotland Archaeological Society near Conon Bridge, Ross-shire, #OTD in 2019. Part of the Conan Stone had been reused as an 18thC grave marker. It is notable for the massive beasts that flank and surmount the cross. 📸HES

Born on this day in 1516, Mary I was England’s first crowned queen regnant. But how did she compare to her half-sister, Elizabeth I? Both Tudor queens ruled in their own right, but their reigns couldn’t have been more different… bit.ly/430wa5z

During the Great Fire of London the rumour quickly spread that foreign migrants were responsible. Foreigners were beaten up & even lynched. The fire’s severity was in fact caused by unusually dry conditions and high winds.

So worried about the people of Western NC as they STILL don't have shelter and are losing the hotel vouchers in frigid temps. We are better off across the border, but they aren't.

Yesterday, Jan. 5, was the medieval Feast of St. Edward the Confessor. I know you all celebrated accordingly. But did you celebrate with eels, like Henry III? The king was a big ol' St. Ed's fanboy, & each year he threw a huge party with lots of eels. 10,000 of them in 1251! 🗃️🧪

On January 5, 1933, construction began on Golden Gate Bridge, a Depression-era project providing thousands of jobs. Completed in 1937, it became an engineering marvel, connecting San Francisco to Marin County, symbolizing human resilience and innovation. #StayCurious #Skystorians #DiveIntoDiscovery

My favorite room at Biltmore (obviously)!

Today at Biltmore I learned that Cornelia Vanderbilt had married a descendant of Lord Burleigh. Of all the paintings on the wall, I noticed his portrait and asked about it. I had never really been interested in the family before but I am now.

Acton Court. In 1535, Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn visited the house while on progress. Nicholas Poyntz wanted to impress Henry, as one does, so he added the East Wing to his home.

After reading Matt's rebuttal, I am inclined to think he is right. But I will admit I do have a bias. However, if I was presented with clear evidence that Richard had done it, I would concede. While this might be compelling, I do not think it reaches the level of clear evidence.
