I filmed this yesterday on my way to Lousiana where my constituent Rümeysa Öztürk is being wrongfully held by ICE. I’m there now demanding her release. More to come.

The federal government plans to eliminate services for LGBTQ youth who call 988, the national suicide and crisis hotline, according to a Health and Human Services budget draft leaked last week.

The plan to prove that the most incompetent White men are preferable to the most highly qualified Black men has been a smashing success. Between the tariff lunacy tanking the economy, the chain-sawing of the federal govt, & Signal-gate (parts 1 & 2), the supremacy is not looking very supreme.

Q: "How do you respond to Governor Newsom?" Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

This framing is nuts, and the assumption is that public funding for a public good is somehow untoward and illicit. “The schools took the money” and became “warily beholden to the whims of politicians in Washington.”/1 www.nytimes.com/2025/04/18/u...

the US government is so hostile to immigrants and Palestine activism that they’re snatching students off campuses and deporting them—while radicalized white men like FSU shooter Phoenix Ikner, the son of a cop who used her gun, espouse Nazi ideology and ridicule protesters before killing. my latest

They used to apply this perfect victim logic to rape survivors and Black bus boycott ladies and it needs to die

Me and Bret Stephens now:

one thing that Democratic politicians should take note of is that the overlap between “great political optics” and “actual morally good stuff” is really big right now

obviously Bukele has given his spin, but if a single senator can spring Kilmar for margaritas, then it has become exceptionally awkward for the President and his entire executive branch to insist there's nothing they can do to get him back to the US.

i hope other elected dems are taking note - this is where the bar is now. get out there and do something. put your own ass on the line for us.

TPM’s @hunterw.bsky.social makes a convincing case - citing experts - that we should be referring to CECOT as a “concentration camp,” “penal colony,” or “permanent prison camp.” Based on its features (no due process, indefinite detention) he says: “President Trump is sending people to the camps.”

Every now and then it hits me that this isn’t just about 1 inhuman act or another, but a bigger picture. That the entire democratic experiment in America is falling apart in front of our eyes. It’s historic in that sense. Which then makes me wonder why all media stories aren’t framed this way.

The "Jackie Robinson Day background" section of MLB's official press release about Jackie Robinson just notes that he was a first baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers who debuted in 1947. Nothing about the how, the why.

Guys, we’re ALREADY at the “Then they came for me” part. The only thing we can’t be sure of is the order.

We knew exactly what this administration was going to do because it was written in Project 2025. Folks can be surprised at how quickly it has moved, but no one can act like they didn't know.

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences

The fact that the government is using charges of antisemitism to justify sending people to concentration camps is the most enraging manipulation of discourse that the current fascists have engaged in thus far. They’ll live out their Nazi fantasies all while claiming they are doing it for the Jews.

What we all just witnessed had all the earmarks of a criminal conspiracy to deprive Abrego-Garcia of his constitutional rights, as well as an impeachable offense. The fraud scheme was a phony agreement engineered by the US to have Bukele say he lacks power to return Abrego Garcia and he won't do it.

Before press came in — but while live feed was running on Bukele’s feed — Trump said to him: “home-growns are next. … You’re gonna need to build about 5 more places.” x.com/nayibbukele/...

This is horrifying and should, in any reasonable world, lead to immediate impeachment. On a hot mic, before the media arrived, starting around 7:15 on the time index, Trump tells Bukele he is going to start sending "homegrown criminals" to El Salvadoran gulags. This is fascism.

as we see ice disappearing americans and wrong thinkers, keep in mind that the key democratic party message last year was: we are also tough on immigration, were just not as mean as republicans. and the result was more people voting for republicans than they have in a long long time. whee.

The way the question needs to be framed to Bukele is: “So if the Trump administration requested the return of some prisoners, you would refuse?”

The president who in 2020 had unidentified federal agents deployed against protesters is now encouraging a foreign dictator to build more prisons to accommodate "homegrown" "criminals," as he ignores a court order to effect the return of a guy sent to a foreign prison without any due process.

I don’t use the “fascist” term often or really ever, as to preserve its meaning, but what the United States Government is embarking on with the El Salvadoran prison camp is simply that. It’s an affront to the rule of law, the Constitution, and centuries of Anglo-American constitutional development.

I still believe it all should've ended the moment he mocked a disabled reporter.

i think about this photo a lot

Adolf Hitler's “Mein Kampf” is still on U.S. Naval Academy shelves. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and “Memorializing the Holocaust” are not. An order by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office led to a purge of books that are critical of racism — but preserved volumes defending white power.

The ideas around “neutrality” and “bias” have done so much damage in the mainstream media. These ideas only work in one direction—against the left—and result in people in the industry who personally identify as left-leaning overcompensating and doing the right’s work for them

Modern journalism's instinct/desire/strategy to lazily accept and pass on, without further interrogation, the nonsense counterfactual framing of whoever is acting in the worst faith, is a huge part of why we are here.

i expected smarter super villains, i gotta be honest

One thing about "compromising" with Republicans is that there is no room for agreement. It's not like this is part of a larger effort to remove toxins from drinking water; the GOP is working overtime to make our water dirtier. How do you "compromise" with bad people who only want to do harm?

keep in mind this is just the markets reaction to the announcement of the tariffs. they haven’t even been implemented yet lol

Every single pundit and Wall Streeter and analyst that was like “sure he says he massively raise tariffs but he won’t actually” should be hounded by this for decades, the way we failed to do over all the idiots who bought the OBVIOUSLY FALSE WMD lie

I think we have to confront the fact that tens of millions of Americans have pledged slavish allegiance to a man who says explicitly that his benchmark for when America was great is 1913. And then we have to think about the possibility that we are in the throes of a nationwide mental health crisis.

Your tariff rate is your star sign divided by the number of boys you've kissed, multiplied by one
